It plays and handles like a dumbed down call of duty title-im sure activision(this games publishers)have let this developer have access to some early form of that engine-it handles ok.The graphics aren't great but they are ok.The story i guess has to be classed as original as i cant recall any other fps where you are soley protecting the potus(president of the united states)and you have some nice set pieces in the oval office and capitol hill.I remember defusing some of the bombs was very frustrating, and if you are going for achievements there was a level you had to do wearing night googles constantly-hurt my eyes lol but thats a side issue. If you like fps you will have some fun here, but for people who only play the elite shooters i can imagine they would have complaints. The choice is yours.
Secret Service fails to give a satisfying FPS experience, and just goes to show that even though Activision published it, they're taking a bullet for a bad development team.
Not recommended unless you're willing to part with your cash.
You play Secret Service Agent Pierce and the game starts off on Inuaguration day and the President is shot, and the Whitehouse is being attacked by terrorists, from then on you have to work your way through the game; diffusing bombs via hacking into them, tackling terrorists who have infiltrated the very inner sanctum of the whitehouse, take down rogue agents, use a night vision gun on the presidents helicopter and even save the day in a fantastic mission on Airforce One.
The game reminds me a lot of Die Hard Nakatomi Plaza, you will get to do various things in the game, working your way through the whitehouse, through its various secret tunnels and vaults, sniping, shootouts with team mates by your side and even have to take down Rogue Secret Service agents all on your own with only a stun pistol which fires stun bolts rather like bullets. You may find the intial control method a bit fiddly at fist, I moved the sideways movement up to 10 for better strafing, but perhaps the most challenging aspect at first is the bomb diffusing, it is tricky at first, but it does have its own mini game in the options menu where you can practice or just play it over and over for fun. You can select a difficulty, edit the difficulty any way you like and build up your ability through gradual practice, after a few days you will be able to do them no trouble at all even on the hardest difficulty, I can understand the other reviewer who is frustrated but if he just put in some pratice he could do them easy, some gamers want everything easy and then moan when the game is easy. My advice to anyone is practice them in the mini games, take the timer off and just take your time analysing it all and then build up to harder configurations, then add the timer back and you'll soon become a master hacker.
This game is so refreshing from the endless sequels that come out these days, and although I don't expect it to get any rave reviews, largely because it isn't multiplayer and doesnt have any hype surrounding it, it is a surefire winner for fans of FPS games.
Great graphics (why the other reviewer said PS2 I'll never know) great gameplay, and something different from the aliens invading earth or WW2 fodder we get endlessly thrown at us via game publishers, I loved it, and you may too if you give it a go.
At various (and it would appear, frequent) points in the game you have diffuse bombs or hack computers, fair enough, but to do so you have to complete soul destroying annoying little circuit board puzzles. The circuit board consists of power sources, circuit chips, and connectors. You are supposed to keep flipping each chip and connector around until all of the circuit chips light up and you've normally less than a minute to complete the puzzle or you can't hack the computer or the bomb goes off.
The first couple were simple and although the second one took me a couple of attempts when the bomb went off the checkpoint was reloaded at the point before I found the bomb. However! I am now stuck on the third one (I think) and when I fail the checkpoint loads quite a bit back meaning, of course, that I've replayed the same part of the game about five times now. Extremely frustrating. Each puzzle is random too so a walkthrough would be useless.
A more patient gamer may be willing to master the puzzles or find a cheat however, I've rented the game (thankfully) and I feel (graphics and gameplay considered) it's just not worth the hassle.
I would definitely NOT recommend this game to anyone, only buy this if you want a game to hate for all time, it's a huge waste of money and absolutely rubbish in every way.
