In Destiny you are a Guardian of the last city on Earth able to wield incredible power. Explore the ancient ruins of our solar system, from the red dunes of Mars to the lush jungles of Venus. Defeat Earth's enemies. Reclaim all that we have lost. Become legend.
Everything changed with the arrival of the Traveler. Long ago, it breathed new life into our system. Rain washed over Mars. Fresh air cleansed the skies over Venus. Soon after, humanity raced into the black, and colonised these newly remade worlds. It was a time of miracles – a great Golden Age.
Crucible: competitive multiplayer
Enter the Crucible to hone your competitive skills against other Guardians in arenas that span the solar system. Victory will earn you rewards and reputation.
Patrol: on-demand adventure
Revisit the worlds you have discovered to aid the City in their exploration efforts, seek out valuable resources in order to upgrade your weapons and gear, and link up with other brave Guardians roaming the frontier in search of action and adventure.
Strike: cooperative multiplayer
Form a Fireteam, three Guardians strong. Infiltrate an enemy stronghold, cutting through wave after wave of enemy ranks emboldened by their fierce, battle-hardened leaders. Confront an enemy worthy of only the bravest Guardians.
Tower: third-person social space
Home of the Guardians, the Tower is a third-person social hub where you can regroup, rearm, and form new alliances before venturing beyond the safety of the City’s walls.
Story: epic campaign
Destiny features a rich, cinematic story, centred on your quest to discover and explore the remains of humanity’s Golden Age. As a Guardian, you must venture beyond our walls into a wild and dangerous frontier, and take the fight to ancient evil forces hell bent on our destruction.
Raid: cooperative adventure
Raids are the ultimate test of your strength. Team up with your fellow Guardians and take on huge bosses and tough puzzles to unlock exclusive loot. If the pressure is too much, you can leave and resume the fight later.
Our Golden Age
Everything changed with the arrival of the Traveler. Long ago, it breathed new life into our system. Rain washed over Mars. Fresh air cleansed the skies over Venus.
Soon after, humanity raced into the black, and colonised these newly remade worlds. It was a time of miracles – a great Golden Age.
Hope in the darkness
It did not last. The Traveler had an ancient enemy. A powerful darkness that found us here on Earth, and nearly destroyed us.
No one knows exactly what happened in those final moments, but we know this: we survived, and we owe our lives to the Traveler.
We rise again
In our darkest days, Humans, Exos, and Awoken found the Traveler where it made its last stand, low above Earth, silent and immobile.
We built the City – our last – within its protective veil, fighting countless wars to keep its peace. From that dark age, Guardians were born.
A new frontier
Now, a new era has begun, and the only hope for our future lies in unlocking the greatest mysteries of our past. You are a Guardian of the last safe city on Earth, able to wield some of the Traveler's incredible power. You are taking this mantle just as a new day dawns. Titans, Hunters, and Warlocks have finally returned to our long-lost worlds, only to find out we are not alone.
The Destiny Limited Edition comes with a steelbook case, the Guardian Folio, and bonus digital content including a unique ghost skin, exclusive player emblem, and exclusive player ship skin. Simply because it is about as basic a game as any you can name from about ten years ago.
Most missions in the game are made up of having to go here and do this, go there and do that, hold off three waves of enemies until I complete this, rinse and repeat.
Even the story has you asking a lot more questions than it answers.
Before abruptly ending, leaving you wondering what happened to the rest of the game.
In a lot of ways you can't help but feel that the game has been cut by the developers (by order of the publisher Activision) so it could be sold back to the customers later as downloadable content.
And in this game you get that feeling a lot.
With all that being said however, there is something about this game that has you constantly coming back for more.
Graphically it isn't the best of games, but it is more visually appealing than it first appears as little details leave wondering about the possibilities of how life was before the "collapse".
The cooperative multiplayer is excellent as you can play the game through completely with your friends, and also put your skills to the test in what is called The Crucible.
By far though, one of the best aspects of this game is its soundtrack.
Simply put, it is absolutely sublime.
Easily one of the best soundtracks to a game that I've heard for a long time.
This game on first appearance does only warrant an average score of 2.5 out of 5.
And I would have given it exactly that score if I was able to.
But this score is set to increase in my opinion, as Destiny is going to evolve over time.
And it is a game that is set to be supported for the next ten years.
Overall, I personally like the game but I believe that it may not appeal to a lot of gamers.
Destiny is a game that will require a lot of personal investment in the terms of how much time you're willing to put into it.
And as it grows over time, that investment will get greater and greater.
Watch for reviews of Destiny over the Christmas period.
I believe that this is the time you will get a better game than the early adopters like myself.
Yes the system is terrible. Yes the community is terrible. Yes Bungie is terrible.
But if you can find 5 other friends to do the raids with it's a pretty fun game. RNG is pretty stupid and will definitely shaft you but if you can at least experience the first raid, the "Vault of Glass" it'll be worth it.
If you're not the type for PvE then you can always hit up the Crucible right from Lv1 and even level to 20 from it since damage is scaled so if you find a weapon you like, you can probably kill that Lv30/32/34 (whatever max level currently is) with his big scary Suros Regime.
If you don't like the idea of grinding, why are you looking at an MMO? Even if it is a pretty bad one you have to keep in mind it's still an MMO.
Even if you don't plan on buying it, it's definitely worth borrowing to check out. If you do plan on buying it, definitely grab the limited edition if it's even close to the Season Pass price since it comes with a Season Pass. I paid £40 for mine and the Season Pass is £35 on its own so I saved like £30 or something.
The campaign I liked, decent story, many planets you can travel to and a good range of weapons with amazing visuals. A few annoying things were returning to the tower often (mainly because it took ages to load). Playing with friends made this experience much better as it became repetitive after a while. The are no character relationships to build up the story and nothing much to do apart from shoot. Could have done with some better set pieces. Many of the missions take place over some same ground played previously.
As for the multiplayer, if you have played halo and liked it you will like this game. If you're a COD person, you will probably find it annoying as it takes a whole magazine (due to armour on the person) to take someone out.
The game has a huge world for you to explore, dungeons for you to raid, world bosses, coop missions and to top that all up a great multiplayer. It's essentially 2 games in one.
But you need to give it some time to intoxicate you, the first few levels can be boring, especially if you played the Beta
You have to grind to get the good gear. Its a hit or miss approach for some so its always going divide opinion.
The second is the story mode. The story is part of a ten year plan, but that's not to say it shouldn't have been good! It felt rushed, disjpinted. and was over way to fast. If people bought this game mainly for the story then they'll be sorely disappointed.
Moving on for the positives which in my opinion out way the bad are solid gun play. The mechanics are spot on. The gameplay multiplayer and PVE are entertaining. Graphics are 1080p .. Bliss. Finally the loot system. For me I enjoy thebgrind finding that next piece of equipment no one has. Standing out from the crowd albeit hard work at times. So there you go personally I loved it but I don't begrudge anyone who thinks otherwise!
