I know we should be doing social media... but in all honesty... till I met John I didn't get the point as I was doing it and getting nothing in return. For me it was a lot of work and a waste of time. Then John taught me the things to focus on and what to do. His book is his mind in words and I can go back over and over to refresh things... because let's be honest ... social media is not my thing... but I know it is a thing that is necessary. John's book, helps you cut the noise out, be strategic and get results. My time now is well spent! Get the book, you love the layout, the methodology is great and just a great book in this field. I highly recommend it.

A really concise look at social media marketing, John clearly demonstrates his expertise in the field and presents a book with plenty of tips, tricks and most importantly the theory behind social media which is easy to understand and implement. I would recommend to anyone looking for a social media book to buy this book over any of the thousands of others.

This is a must buy book for any SME that wants to set a strategy for their social media activities. The author has a deep understanding of the business owner's lack of time, and how social media could exacerbate this. His approach is focused on helping you to first understand why you are engaging in social media. I loved the fact that the author even dismisses Klout as a potential red herring if appearing prominently on Klout is not actually relevant to your social media activities. The author helped me to very quickly sort out a few long standing problems I had been grappling with, and I am going to now read the book a second time to extract all the wealth of value there is to be found in it. Highly recommended.

I run 3 different businesses, all of which have very different strategies for social media marketing. I wanted to really understand what the options, benefits were for each of them. I was told about John's book from a friend who suggested it would be a perfect read for me.

He was right- it gave me a new understanding of what I was doing wrong- and how i could correct those mistakes. I found the book such a great resource that I sought John out for his advice in a one-to-one arrangement.

Highly recommended for SME business owners!

I met John via social media on linked in. Neither of us had anything in common until I posted a plea for work exp, for my daughter, then he had the connection! And made it happen for her in Harvey Nicks, that's some connection. We got to know each other over time and he encouraged me to try Twitter. He set my social media strategy for my company and got it rolling. I still didn't protest to really understand what I might get from SM , but stuck with it because I trusted John. This book has challenged me to understand finally what I'm doing! The mini exercises and Q and A parts made me think and realise, I'm trying to be all things to all people on social media. But now I see that I have discovered my goal with it is to consistently raise my profile, which is what I'm doing and it's a success. Most people comment I'm on Twitter all day! But in reality maybe three tweets pw and they aren't auto set up.
This book is from the genius of Social Media, when there are supposedly a million gurus out there! tick with this book and talk to John. There is nothing better out there.

John uses the term hype part way into the book to acknowledge that this is how social media can often appear to many. For numerous business owners the message being broadcasted, by some in the social media field, is that if you're not on it or in it, you'll get left behind; and you leave the door open for your techno savvy competitors.

ACCELerate Your Social Media offers a different and welcome perspective - that the off line interaction with others is important, and John introduces his views on how the online complements what we do when meeting people face to face. The book makes you think about your strategies and why you choose the channels you use and their purpose in achieving your business plan. This is not a 'how to set up a social media account' book, yet does contain plenty of insights and tips that have changed the way I engage with others online.

It's an easy read and I'm now on my second run through and still spotting 'new' snippets or reinforcing my thoughts and choices. It also contains practical exercises and tools that you can implement whilst you progress the book. I can't advise you as to whether you should be on Twitter, Facebook, or LinkedIn - however I can advise you to read this book.
