I moved to Sussex in 2015 and the A272 became my local route. I use it to go between home and the surrounding places of interest as I learn about my new home county.
Someone mentioned that there was a book about the road and I just had to buy it. What a wonder it is! It is written in such as style of English that put most natives of England to shame (me included). I have now a comprehensive knowledge of the vast number of places of interest on my doorstep and slightly further afield. The history is wonderful and I travel on this road with my eye wide open in wonder.
Great prose, great history and lovely photos - lots of humour, too.
Thank you Pieter and Rita for such a beautifully written and entertaining book.

Given as a fathers day present as new owner loves to drive and investigate the smaller A roads, so I knew this would interest him.

A lovely, quirky, interesting and intelligent book. I have had a copy for some years, and bought this for a good friend. It is also about one of my favourite roads in England. A delight!

I have a much-loved copy of the first edition, which is still very useful.
This is a totally brilliant, well-written, thoughtful, humourous and well-researched book, with plentiful illustrations. The unusual layout adds to its charm.
Pieter and Rita Boogaart deserve the highest possible accolades for this wonderful book.
