We managed to charge and set it up, in fact she has beat me at finding how to do things, and is very happy with its performance.
I bought a leatherette case with keyboard, and a 32GB Flash Card to take it to max. HD memory.
She is only using 'in house' at present but we are soon going on holiday to Canada and travelling across the country by train.
Hopefullywe can pick up some good WiFi connections, and maybe some good photos, maps, and keep in touch with relatives back home.
I am going to download a Word processor soon, and then use it to keep arecord of our holiday activities.
The bad points are few and these are minor when you take everything into account. One would be the way the machine looked when it came out of the box. Whilst everything was present and correct, there were a few scratches on the screen protector cover. Whilst I`m glad there has been a screen cover stuck on as standard the scratches make me ask the question.. Is this tablet brand new or slightly used, and possibly returned.? Whatever the case, its a great little device and I`m not concerned now that its covered in finger marks and no doubt a few extra cosmetic scratches. Solution - Change the screen protector every 6 months or so.. The included instruction manual is ridiculously tiny and some of the translations feel like a joke. However, although totally new to the Android operating system, it all came clear after a few hours of playing around with apps and toggling the settings. This system is easy to use and there is not a lot you can do wrong as you flick about the various screens which are open at any given time. I`ve typed this review up with the A1CS keyboard + case which evidently works, and in my opinion, is an essential extra as you end up with a mini laptop at roughly half the size of my Acer Aspire One netbook which isnt at all big itself.
In conclusion, you should give this tab a chance if your looking around at the moment. I`m sure that it wouldnt result in anything other than many happy hours of browsing and discovering cool new apps.
Warning - the initial start up page looks like tablets might have looked if they'd been branded in the 70s. That said, you only ever see it for about 5 seconds. And the default homepage is frankly icky. But once I'd downloaded some familiar apps, got rid of the default browser and changed the wallpaper (to, I must confess, an apple-alike version) I felt much more at home. So far, so good. No problems with wifi, or with anything crashing. The build quality seems okay. It's not as satisfying or as classy as an ipad, nor as immediately intuitive, and the touchscreen swiping isn't as smooth. But it's apples and pears, frankly and I'm only £80 or so down, rather than several hundred.
The fact is it's a total bargain.
Thank you A1CS for your assistance in this matter!
