what an interesting read. And I would recommend this book either online version or paper back. I have 4 others of this sort.
things haven't really changed a great deal form the early 19th century to today.
a great source of social history. Some of the poor victims, my goodness they must have suffered dreadfully.

The format is unusual, in that the author has taken 365 days, 1st January to 31st December, and given accounts of crime and court appearances around the Black Country area. Each account starts with the year it which it took place. It is a mixture of records from local magistrates courts, inquests, Assizes and Quarter Sessions. A very good read, and sometimes very shocking.

I liked the book, but it was something akin to reading a dictionary. A very good compilation of facts without any glue. Having said that, some form of narrative woven in could make it outstanding. Top marks for research, would have loved to have given more stars

An insight into the bad old days of the 19th century on, with details of court proceedings, and newspaper reports. If you think times are bad now, you might want to read this!

Well written and hard to put down. Would like to see a second edition published as I am sure there are many more stories to be told.
