HASH(0x89473444) out of 5 stars Better than expected. 20 Aug. 2010

This film turned out to be quite a bit better than I expected. It was well put together in terms of editing and was shot very well. The shots within the film did a great job of illuminating the explicit physicality behind porn shoots without actually showing so much that it felt like I was watching a porn video (not that there's anything wrong with that!!). I suppose my initial concern was that this film would come across as a "dirty" little glimpse into the world of pornography, but it was actually a detailed account from various perspectives of very different individuals that are all involved in the same business, and it is just that, a BIG business. The description and visual representation of the performers were interesting to see because this film does a good job of painting a a detailed picture in which every star is so very different. Some of them are exactly what someone might expect; damaged, bizarre, and lonely, while others live pretty normal lives and possess all the coping skills to separate work from home life.

The depiction of the directors was pretty cool too, because you would expect that they are all a little on the weird side, and they pretty much are, but on very different level. Seeing an insider look at Jim Powers was really cool because that guy gets such a bad rep and then you see what he has to work with, and the fact that he's just an old school punk that wants to do his own thing. I guess my only complaint with the film is that there wasn't a focus on more controversial directors, yet, I suppose that would be for a different type of porn doc film all together.

Portions of this film are a little sad, and I expected them to be so, but it is all just a picture of the lives that these people have chosen to live. I will say in closing though, that the footage of Bella Donna and Sasha Grey was great. I find these two women to be inspiring in what they do, and the way they conduct themselves and their business while doing so. These women have come to understand that the world of porn will chew them up and spit them out unless they take it all into their own hands and do with it as they please. Taking complete creative control of their careers and the products that they turn out. The world of business is still a male dominated world, and the business of porn is certainly no exception. The women are the selling point and the product, but the guys make all the decisions and really, make all the money as well. These two women are fantastic exceptions to the rule and set an example of how any actress involved in porn should conduct themselves.

HASH(0x898c9a50) out of 5 stars Worth Watching 8 Jan. 2012

I enjoyed watching this documentary on the behind the scenes part to the porn industry. It is well made, just a heads up that if you plan on buying this that its not all sunshine and rainbows, there is a relitively dark/depressing side to the porn industry incase you dident already realize it. Other then that, worth watching.

HASH(0x8a01a240) out of 5 stars Great documentary trashy film 24 Dec. 2010

If you want to see interviews with well known pornstars and learn about this taboo business, this documentary is for you. This documentary shows alot of behind the scenes interviews. Very interesting, you kind of get to see a 'real' side of adult film actors and actresses. Featuring Belladonna who was on Primetime with Diane Sawyer in 2003 saying how horrible her job was. Neat to see an update on how she is doing today. If you're intrigued by this lifestyle and industry, this is for you. If you feel very strongly that adult films are wrong and offend you do not view.
An inside look on a vile business.
HASH(0x898b9bdc) out of 5 stars Little warning! 7 Sept. 2014

Little warning! This movie also exists with the title: "the porn diaries". Do not make the same mistake I did and buy both... For people looking for something explicit, be advised you won't find that in neither of them.

HASH(0x898bb474) out of 5 stars Not Deep Enough (no pun intended) 13 April 2013
By Rodney Varfley - Published on Amazon.com

This felt more like a porn commercial than an insightful documentary. I'm thinking due to industry politics and the puppets interviewed that any candid responses would not be allowed into the film.

The filmmaker from Germany was like the only one who had a thorough dissenting about what he does. He kept it real, "It takes no skill to make porn!" Frustrated and fed up, yet because he and his porn star girlfriend have been in porn so long, they ultimately only have porn as a means of putting food on the table.

Sad, that a man was the only one with something worth listening to. The porn star turned doctor add a little bit of understanding to the film but overall, I get the impression that all women in porn have daddy issues and came from busted homes.

Saying it's empowering and mentioning feminism with porn is ludicrous. How are you "empowered" when you're the one bowing down, getting smacked in the face, and smelling like your own excrement? Hey, if you wanna do that, fine, but don't try to justify like it's good. You don't owe me an explanation. Just do your thang and keep it moving.

Needed more industry facts and more damaged and washed up females telling of their personal struggle with porn.
