A fascinating look at one of the ships of the line in the days of Nelson's navy. Coming new to this subject it is so interesting to look in detail at the design and yes, technology, employed in designing and building a ship of the line. I would recommend this book to anyone reading books by Patrick OBrian, CS Forrester et all as it gives a much better understanding of the complexities of both sailing and fighting these great ships. I became interested in both O'Brian novels and the actual vessels after seeing the film 'Master and Commander - The far Side of the World'. I have now also bought four other books in this excellent series by the publishers and have also been lucky to have been able to vist the Maritime Museum in Greenwich where the actual builders models of these ships are on display.

Another beautiful book of the anatomy of the ship series. However, if you are interested in 18th century ships better go for the Bounty and the Pandora, those books have much more detail, which is normal as the size of the books is the same and the ships represented being smaller there is plenty of detail. Also have a look at Stephen Biesty Men-o-war cross sections, although it is a book for kids the amount of information there, not just about the ship, but about the daily life of the crew, is huge.

These books are noted for there superb information with excellent drawings, this book is an excellent read for anyone who is interested in how the ship is built and fitted out. You can also build the model of the ship with a little exploring on scale, very good book as normal from these anatomy books.

If you want to built it, a real drawing with a 1/75 scale is really missing. Really intersting but not enougth for me.

Useful addition to the reference books for ship modellers, in conjunction with Brian Lavery's other publications.
