Can't beat the price of this thing. And it ain't made of cheap components either - It's a Seasonic rebrand.

It handled my stress testing flawlessly. It got very hot - but it took it like a champ. I overclock my FX 8350 with this and my HD 7970 and it has no complaints.

DON'T: Buy a cheap PSU
DO: Buy a quality unit, such as the XFX 550W

I bought this power supply to replace a CiT 500W that fizzled out on me. I chose the XFX 550W after finding a benchmark test of 43 different PSU. This unit was remarked as having one of the steadiest voltage levels (even when tested at max power output) at an affordable price. It is also 80+ bronze certificated efficiency and had the 2 x 6pin PCI leads I needed for my HD6950 graphics card.

My one gripe is the sheer amount of cabling. Seriously, it reminds me of Medusa's head. Also its non-modular, so you have to struggle to tuck them out the way to maintain airflow through the case. Not an easy task with mATX form factor. Since, I only have 1 graphics card, 1 hard disk and 1 optical drive, 80% of the cables are unused. The cables are well finished, being bunched in black braiding. The downside is that it makes the cables even stiffer and harder to hide away.

After researching, I'd recommend spending no less than £35 (IMO). An extra £20 spent now will give you peace of mind and could save you hundreds. Buy an 80+ certificated unit from a reputable brand, with high Amps (>20A) on the 12v rail(s). Single rail should be seen as an advantage when using multiple high-power components.

good psu bad customer suport when it went wrong

i happened to have a faulty unit which happens every so often it went in the first month of ownership. the actual unit it self did everything i wanted it too it came with a 3 year warrenty so i have sent it off and am waiting a new or fixed one.
product it self is 4-5 star

the reason why i have given this one star is the xfx customer service.... here are a list of problems:

couldn't create a support account with a Hotmail account so had to make a new email address.

there is no number you can call and deal with an actual person (they have a support line 60p a min but will tell you to open a support ticket).

registration problems wouldn't except my product code ( supposedly a common problem) which eventually i managed to get working no idea how. until then they were unhelpful until i registered the product.

as soon as i finished going threw the process the answer was send it back to where you bought it from which frankly they could have just told me that at the start.

i spent awhile jumping threw there hoops ( about 3 days of correspondence) if anyone has to go threw this process i would advise to contact the seller or amazon. xfx customer service is not good.

so product itself good but xfx are not good.

Like Medusa''s head - Will turn your computer to stone

Been running about a year now and no problems. Chose this unit as the replacement for a dodgy generic PSU -G7 from Maplin, a 680W unit, which was really only about 300W on the 12 v rail:
Please heed the advice of 4_Leaf_clover:

"Buy an 80+ certificated unit from a reputable brand, with high Amps (>20A) on the 12v rail(s)"

I won't waffle on, as the rest of what I'd say would reflect what 5_Leaf_Clover already wrote in their 'Medusa's Head' review.
The only difference is I won't knock a star off for that mash of wires. Let's face it, if you've got the sort of kit that needs this power you'll have a large enough case to enclose it all.

Although I was disconcerted to hear GJM Harpin's experience. Last time I dealt with XFX they gave great service...but that was before 'new' management.
Maybe give their customer services a phone to see how they treat you prior to buying???

Well, it finally packed in - just before the 3 year standard warranty (which is now only 2 years - BEWARE)

Looks like my final comment, and GJM Harpin's is true - XFX sold off customer care when they split from Nvidia.

As stated by a previous reviewer - 60p minute call rate when a fault develops is criminal and once you get through their service is appalling. I don't care what their non-fail rates are, a company out to penalise customers when they need assistance stinks.

PS they used to give great service. Hence I chose their products without a second thought. They will no longer get my support - And my 5 star rating has been appropriately downgraded
