- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 11 April 2022Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseI am not an avid poetry reader. TBH I have several poetry books bought in support of talented friends that have stayed on my shelves barely touched but 40 Poems at Forty is a collection I keep close to hand so I can read these beautiful poems again and again. I keep changing my favourites as I fall in love with yet another one. I read them all in one greedy sitting - then I went back to take small sips. They remind me of a changing sky and landscape - light then shade, wondrous, playful, poignant. So much to love about this book.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 July 2022Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseThe author is happy to share her journey through her art. I felt her joys and sadness, and optimism for the future. One of the most engrossing books of poetry I have read to be honest!
On my 40th birthday, I think I probably ate well and drank wine. Ingrid Wilson has left a us legacy of that awakening moment in both words and genuine feelings! Truly Inspiring… thank you!

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 March 2022Format: Paperback40 Poems… is poetry of place and space, and here lie the clues and the beauty to Wilson’s poetry. Her work is charted, landscaped, travelled, explorative and laden with adventure. There are bright, sad, dreamy postcards telling of the beauty of Barcelona, the slate-grey, but singing, county of Cumbria, Malaga, ‘the emptiness’ of Manchester, ‘the fields’ of London, ‘the ancient pasts’ of Newcastle, the mysterious beauty of Slovenia, Venice and its lullaby… lapping water is never far from her ear.
A reflective, rich debut that reveals, in startling images and with dextrous word-play, a trove for those of us learning to live and to love.

Selma in JapanReviewed in Japan on 30 March 20225.0 out of 5 stars Wowed by author's confidence to put her words out there to help others.
Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseThis is not the first time I've purchased a book by this author. As an enthusiast of the written word and passionate about material on the environment and ways to learn how to do the right thing for our planet, I first came upon Ms. Wilson's first book, an anthology, "The Anthropocene Hymnal. Songs of a Self-defining Era." Wow, the caliber of talented poets was readily evident to me. That book got me all teary-eyed in how I related to the things the authors described in their world. All of them.
But when I read the poem entitled "Leave a Light Footprint" by Ingrid Wilson, I knew then that this was someone whose words I wanted to continue to read. My soul connected with Ingrid Wilson's work, and so I followed the author.
And now, she has published a solo book, and I couldn't be happier. 40 Poems at 40 by Ingrid Wilson has my respect. I took my time reading this one, delved deep, and found more about the human behind the lovely words. The poetry collection pleased my heart, and my respect grew knowing how she went from self-loathing to self-acceptance and how that gave her the confidence to put her words out there for other people who might also be going through similar situations.
I was especially touched by the poems about the sea-- tremendously, but equally moved by "Poem to My Children," "Solstice of The Heart," and "Holding Up The Sky."
40 Poems at 40 by Ingrid Wilson is not as long as the first one, but there's no doubt that it's equally satisfying. But you'll just have to purchase it to find out for yourself.
I highly recommend this book and the one that I mentioned first. I bought the paperback on both books, and I'm happy to see and touch them to continue feeling connected to the aura of the author. I will continue to support this author going forward. Satisfied customer in Japan, Selma.

Cheryl BataviaReviewed in the United States on 12 February 20225.0 out of 5 stars A Celebration of the First 40 Years
Format: Kindle EditionVerified Purchase40 Poems At 40, Ingrid Wilson's collection of eloquent semi-auto-biographical poems, celebrates a significant milestone, her fortieth birthday. Wilson doesn't shy away from dealing honestly with the difficult periods and devastating events of her life. More than a mere survivor, she has triumphed over adversity, and her poems chronicle her experiences in a most uplifting manner. Ingrid's poems provide encouragement to the rest of us in all the struggles of our lives.
Some of Wilson's poems reflect on the beauty of nature and her love for her children in a very sensitive and profound way. She speaks with affection about her childhood home in England to which she has recently returned from life abroad.
Ingrid Wilson is an absolutely brilliant writer, but she is also a generous and loving human being. Her humanity shines in this stunning poetry collection.
Dawn PisturinoReviewed in the United States on 25 November 20225.0 out of 5 stars Five Star Review
Format: Kindle EditionVerified PurchaseIn this collection of poems commemorating Ingrid's fortieth birthday, we are given a glimpse into the mind, heart, and soul of an incredibly talented and articulate poet. Ingrid contemplates the misgivings and successes of her own life in astounding verses that speak to the minds, hearts, and souls of her readers. Her honest examination of herself and her world can be summed up here:
"As my own treasure house is my own soul
I have fought long, I have fought hard to keep it
and in self-keeping, still my dreams are whole.
I have fought long, I have fought hard to keep it
you cannot have it now, e'en if you would:
it's my reward, and only I shall reap it."
Ingrid has her own publishing business now, the fulfillment of a lifelong dream.
