This is the final book in the Dark Academy series - so STOP right now if you haven't read the first three in order, this book WILL NOT MAKE SENSE.

Dark Academy 4: Lost Spirits starts with the Academy's yearly relocation - this time to the exotic country of Kenya.

Reflecting on the events of the previous book, most importantly, the curse of the Pendant and the departure of Ranjit, who Cassie belives is her soulmate, she slowly learns more about the spirit that currently shares her body - but does not fully 'possess' or bond to her. As more information is revealed about the spirit that Ranjit houses, Cassie is crushed to find out her own spirit and his were mortal enemies, and yet, deeply in love, which turned to twisted hatred, killing thier previous hosts in alternation. Determined not to let this break her, she seeks out the means to seperate her spirit, only to have dark plots against both her, the school, and the very spirits possesed by 'the few' seek to end everything she's ever known.

On a personal note, I regularly read YA, and I find the last book of the series can either be the best or the worst of the series. Gabriella Poole has finished the final book of the series with an unexpected twist, and one that has left me glad to have read the series, and ultimately, happy with the way it finished. That being said, I DID find this book felt shorter then the rest, and I was able to finish it in a single session.

The final instalment in this darke series comes to a gripping conclusion in the Kenyan desert this year.

While we left off what seems like a long time ago in book 3 with Ranjit being the possessed with the power of the first who touches the urn we come to wake up to the consequences of this horrible cliffhanger. With Jake gone for good and Ranjit ran off with the urn, Isabella and Cassie are struggling to both cope without their loves.

The only shining light in amongst it all is Richard, ever the quick witted and funny guy, he does the best to cheer the girls up and we remember just how much of a character he is and how much easier it would be if Cassie loved him instead. Despite his welcome distractions, Isabella is not herself and sees no reason to stay at the Academy any more, that is until Alric lets her in on a secret...

And of course, Cassie is still battling with her half spirit form of Estelle and not letting her fully become her while trying desperately to track down Ranjit. Just when she seems to have found a lead it all but disappears but then the lead pays her a visit in person. An old enemy come back for more...

What comes to a head involves the artefacts of the urn, knife and pendant and a massive showdown which sees an epic battle that doesn't see everyone make it out alive but provides us with satisfying ending, all be it one tinged with some sadness.

It is clear this is definitely the end of the series by how we conclude but that the Darke Academy still lives on. It has been a really great original series which has been gripping and easy to revist each time despite it's at times confusing content. A fabulous job done by Poole. With a creative mind like hers I am particularily looking forward to seeing what is next.

Loved loved loved this book!! Darke Academy is by far the best series of books I've read in a long time. I'd recommend this book to any young adult who has a deep interest in books with a twisted forbidden romance. I loved the fact th as t not . Only did it have the forbidden love I look for in a story but it had so much more! It showed hate, jealousy, true friendship, faith, and of course had a whole lot of myths as nd legends thrown in too. All in all a great read I'd recommend to anyone in their mid teens to early twenties far better than the twilight saga!

It had a good lead up through out the book I like the fact that Kathrine was back and her Mother and I liked when they killed them. To get the extra star feel like maybe there could have been a clip of Cassie's and Ranjit's life after the Academy.

Was a bit wary when heard of a 4th installment as the story can dry up but I thought this was a fantastic book. Must read to finish the series nicely!
