The 3rd birthday is a 3rd person shooter with an RPG style leveling up system. It follows the story of Aya Brea, a special agent in the CTI, as she attempts to go back in time and stop the existence of a powerful new alien race, the twisted. This has you jumping bodies all over the immediate past as you try hard to discover not only the truth about the twisted, but also the truth about your past and very existence.

Graphics - Absolutely superb, one of the best visual pieces the PSP has to offer, and what we've come to expect from Square Enix 10/10

Gameplay - 3rd person shooting lends itself well to this storyline, and the Overdive and Crossfire systems add excellent strategy and depth to the gameplay. and if it does get repetetive, you can always enter liberation form (or as we like to call it 'God Mode'. A refreshing take on shooters 9/10

Lifespan - the storyline will last you about 4 hours, but there is infinite scope to go back and unlock everything the game has to offer, which is a huge roster of ass kicking weapons and cool costumes. 7/10

The Twisted Edition -
Art Book - A rather cool collection of pictures from the game and beyond, in quite a good looking hardback book
Postcards - Beautiful high quality small prints!
The edition also contains a token for an Aya Brea Costume for Lightning in Final Fantasy Dissidia 012, which personally i found excellent.

The Scores -
3rd Birthday - 8.5/10
Twisted edition offers excellent value for money (about £2 more) 9/10

Awesome game with atleast several times playthrough. A must have for anyone who enjoys action fantasy shooters. Camera angle can be dodgy at times but the auto lock on makes up for this. The unlockable cheat codes makes this game harder to finish for the completist. The armour degredation system is a nice twist to keep you on your toes. Story is good bt lacking in some areas, however the copious amounts of gameplay make up for this, also it's playable even if you haven't played the previus parasite eve titles. Graphics are awesome for the PSP with the FMVs truly stunning. As you can tell I love this game and really must say for £20 it's worth a dip.

There was a point where I was slowly leaning towards going away from the PSP system altogether and buying into the 3DS market. Then this game came out and blew me away with the stunning visuals and all-round brilliant gameplay. The game package itself is fairly decent and boasts a concept art book & hi-res lithographic prints making it an all round value for money buy. Highly recommended!!!

It has been a very long time since aya brea had a new game
As expected of Square Enix, this game has beautiful graphics and music.
Since this is a spin-off title to the parasite eve series there are not many references to the old games and aya's past adventures.

GAMPLAY :
categorized as a third-person shooter/R.P.G
This game can be challenging, even on Easy difficulty and thats a good thing by the way.
In certain parts of the game you will really have to use your head and assess the situation in order to come out a winner.
This game has unique systems such as Overdive attack and Crossfire to give the player the upper hand in a fight. Crossfire is the ability to make multiple soldiers shoot at the same target, dealing high damage, killing enemies faster and also allowing more opportunities to perform Overdive Kill on them, which is this game's most damaging attack.

STORY :
Hideous creatures descend on Manhattan. Ground reports from the squad tasked with containing the pandemonium refer to these life forms as the Twisted. An investigatory team known as the CTI is formed within the year.

The Overdive system emerges as a means of opposition, but only one viable candidate exists - Aya Brea. A gift as she awakens from a lost past on this, the occasion of her third birth.

the story can be very confusing at times leaving the player confused thats the only downside to this game.

SOUND:
The music and sound effects are just what you would expect from a square-enix game meaning they are perfect there are even some old parasite eve 1 tracks remixed into this game.

I'll admit that Parasite Eve isn't a series I really paid much attention to when the first two games came out. I did play most of the second game and found it to be a very enjoyable blend of Resident Evil style survival horror and real time RPG combat and stat management. I never got around to finishing it though, so I didn't have a huge amount of knowledge of the games' overall plot going into The 3rd Birthday, the 3rd game in the series... and perhaps that is why I found the game to be utterly bonkers crazy.

Set in the very near future where New York has been devastated and is being slowly overtaken by an extra-dimensional race of mindless, grotesque creatures called the 'Twisted', you play as Aya Brea, who has been working for a secret organisation seeking to stop the Twisted since she was found 3 years before suffering near total amnesia about her past and the only clue she has is a wedding ring on her finger. Possessing the unique ability to 'Overdive', which lets her travel backwards in time and possess the bodies of people in the past, Aya is tasked with returning to key incidents involving the Twisted in an attempt to stop them from having occurred and in order to find a way to stop the Twisted once and for all. Ever wonder what Quantum Leap would have been like if Sam Beckett spent all his time killing giant monsters? Wonder no more! The plot may sound like something a little different for a Japanese RPG, and it most certainly is... however this isn't always such a good thing, as the plot is so completely insane even without the non-linear nature of how the plot is presented that trying to figure out what was actually going on in the last hour or so of gameplay actually caused me a degree of physical pain. It is, ironically, twisted as hell.
