Other reviewers write that they play the CD in the car but we have had it at home as a 10 minute calm time. Our 3 year old thinks they are great. Good quality stuff
All I can say is that is is utterly delightful - the CD features 5 tales (A Chorus For US, Rolling Along, To Play Or Not To Play, The Muffin Express and Samuel's Dance), and runs for 50 mins, so could easily be listened to for 5 nights a week at bedtime. The tales are interspersed with many, many little songs, and have some 'made up' words that I think any child into the series would love, but from an adult perspective, if this had been on in my car for a whole 50 mins, then I would have had to resort to the 'oh, no, the CD player isn't working. We'll have to have a look at it when we get home' scenario.
Fans of the series will not be disappointed, and this CD is going off to make a youngster very happy.
It is all together too loud, chirpy, shrieky and annoying for me to listen to for long BUT (as is typical) my toddler nearly 3 clearly enjoys it. So it does seem to entertain and appeal to the target audience even though there are other CDs she likes better than this one which is why I've not given 5 stars.
Perhaps she would have liked it more, seeing the actual TV show (on CBeebies first) but she came to the CD not knowing any of the characters so it took a few goes before she really liked listening to it. I've found this with a lot of CDs/DVDs that even if your child says they don't like them initially, put them away for a little while and re-introduce them a little later. Many my toddler didn't like at first (Maisy, Bagpuss) are firm favourites now.
I would say a good buy especially if your child likes the TV show.
Five delightful stories peppered with cheerful songs make it really good fun to listen to and all the charachters are there - Muffin being a particular favourite in our house and I personally love the bird references - 'Come on everybirdy' etc...
It drops a star because, to me, the narration at times sounded stilted and patched together rather than the natural flow you would achieve from having all the characters recording it together but, hey, my 3 year old loves it and is utterly hooked (it goes everwhere with us at the moment!) and I'll allow him to be the judge...
Not having seen the actual TV show, made it a bit like a regular "Listen & repeat" children's CD to an extent, although as always, one cannot argue with the excellent production quality and sound of BBC audio.
It was fun, but a little like listening blind, and as important as visual stimulation in conjunction with listening is to toddlers development, you're probably better to seek out the actual TV shows on DVD, and stick to regular singalong, and music CD's.
We were all enchanted by the lovely stories on this CD, although I do feel it helped 'knowing' the lovely characters from 3rd and Bird before hand (CBeebies if you're interested). Muffin definitely is our favourite!
A great selection, and running to just under an hour, it alowed my sleepy heads that 'one last story'(along with some songs) before falling asleep.
My 2 and 3 year old really enjoy listening to this when we're on our way to playschool. We have never seen 3rd and Bird but, the fact it is by the same creator as The Wonder Pets, which is one of their favorites i thought it would be pretty good to give it a go.
Each episode seams to be about working together/teamwork and compromising so everyone is happy which are great things for kids to learn.
