Booted up the xHDD and was pleasently surprised, quiet operation and performs as well I need to for my day to day use. The biggest seller of this drive however is how it looks, cracking little unit that is the size of my Iphone and weighs about the same. The chrome exterior looks fantastic and even came with a protective cover
If you are looking for an all round drive this is your pick!
The first thing I have to say about this drive is it looks incredible! Even better than I thought it would despite my high expectations based on other reviews. Its also very weighty and feels quite sturdy because of its metal case. The only downside is the actual capacity of the drive comes up as just shy of 300GB but most other hard drives tend to be short of the stated capacity in my experience. Potentially a format may sort this out although I havn't tried this yet.
In use its simply plug and play. Within 30 seconds I had plugged it in (needing only 1 USB of the Y cable supplied) and had copied over the coursework I needed backing up.
The other benefit to the Neso is that when it arrives it comes in a neat plastic case the same size as the drive with added depth to fit the USB cable below. This is perfect for transporting it around so you can keep it safe.
Overall a great compact drive and well worth getting.
Edit: After a bit of searching found that the difference in drive space is due to a difference in how Megabytes are calculated. They advertize based on a megabyte being 1,000,000 bytes. In reality, your computer reports gigabytes based on megabytes being 1024 kilobytes, which are 1024 bytes. A gigabyte is 1024 megabytes. Therefore, if you divide 320,000,000,000 by 1024 three times, you get 298 gig which is actually the correct storage capacity (and what my computer registers it as).
It comes in a great little box with foam lining, which I intend to store it in. I simply took it out of the box, plugged the USB cable in (A twin USB cable is supplied, but it works fine with one USB on my 18month old HP Pavillion laptop), the drivers installed automatically and the window popped up ready for copying files. No formatting required - acts simply like a big USB stick. Data transfer is fairly quick with USB2.0 and it has a funky blue LED to let you know its copying. All the connections are solid, the drive is quiet, and the case looks great as well as being different to everything else on the market.
Like I said - perfect!
My laptop took literally a matter of seconds to install the driver. The transfer rate is good, although depends on how many other programs you have open.
Only reason im not going to give it 5/5 is because it would not eject from my laptop once, kept coming up saying it was transferring a file even though it wasnt. I had to risk it and pull the USB cable out, ever since then its been fine and not lost any files or corrupted.
I have purchased 2 NESO drives now and have been thrilled by the performance, are u possibly using a very old laptop system?
I have used both my NESO units on my laptop, my desktop and various work PCs and the performance has always been first rate
I will certainly be sticking with this brand!
The Neso is small, fast and shiney, like a gold-plated kitten, strapped to a rocket.
Not much else to say, except that I've also used the perspex packaging it comes in as a sanding block for sanding down filler on walls. I'm not sure if this was intended by the manufacturers, but I applaud them on the sizing for this application.

Still works years and years later, quietly saves and reads with minimal drain although a very small capacity by modern standards it'll still do the job.Published 9 months ago by Robot_Boy
