I know Ballymaloe - an almost magical place with so much to explore and so many surprises in every corner. I work with a chef who learned her skills at Ballymaloe. And I read a lot about Darina Allan and her amazing spirit and creativity. So this book inspires me and keeps me going until the next visit. I am not a devoted cook or housewife but her recipes are always tempting - especially because she is a Slow Food person and she is much in favour of honest and organically grown food. Her ideas for her many different gardens and buildings are awesome.
A superbly evocative book describing the Ballymaloe School background, ethos, food and style. Bound to get you cooking or booking a stay at the Ballymaloe cottages to attend the cookery school. If you cannot get to the Ballymaloe Cookery School then this book is the next best thing. Wonderful.
