I just received this book and im not sure how i feel about it yet, i like it but i don't love it. I bought this book because im trying to change my diet and lifestyle, I want to cut down on my meat consumption and want to crank up the veggies but cook them in interesting new ways instead of the usual steamed and salad veggies. The 30 minute tagline appealed as i want to make things fast and i had a quick browse on the 'look inside' feature and liked what i saw.
I am a little disappointed because i was expecting wholesome family meals i could cook for my children after school and there are a lot of raw or 'live' recipes in here which is not really what im after (i should have realised this as the authors are live chefs and have previously written a raw cookbook) i don't think my children would eat many of these.
I won't dismiss it completely however, i'm going to keep the book and try out some of the recipes and then I'll post again with the results.
I will definitely try the 'live cinnamon rolls' provided i can get hold of the ingredients, (not easy when you live in rural england!) 'macadamia nut encrusted tofu', 'macadamia nut ricotta tomato towers' (i must admit they do look delicious, that's probably the recipe which stands out for me the most),'put the tex in your mex chilli' and 'We will rock you nachos' (that's definitely one the kids will enjoy).
I would just like to point out this is just my personal opinion on first impressions of the book so if you do really like the book, please don't take my criticism too much to heart. You never know, i may end up really liking it!
I would say this is not really a book for families, it's better suited to young professionals who enjoy good food and want to come home after work to a healthy quick meal.

Ok, I'm pretty new to this vegan deal so I thought a recipe book might help me to get a few ideas. I wouldn't say that I'm master chef or anything but I can navigate my way around a kitchen, however the whole vegan thing is a bit different to what I'm used to.

If you are in the same boat as me - looking for ideas or inspiration - then steer clear of this book. It gave me ground breaking new ideas like salads being vegan (shocker) and the recipe for cinnamon sugar popcorn is to put cinnamon and sugar on popcorn...

New ideas very few and far between, sadly.

American measurements, but otherwise very good. Worth buying for the chocolate macadamia nut biscuits alone. Easily the best cookie (vegan or otherwise) that I've ever had (many children I know have seconded this!)

This book, in my opinion, is a good introduction to how vegans eat. It has a quick, short, helpful intro packed with just enough info to get you started and has what you basically need to know if cooking is not your forte.

It's good for someone who is trying transition and adopt the "all rounder vegan diet". The principle is to eat as natural as possible and this book, for me, incorporates that value and has recipes that are both raw and cooked - which opens up the channels for creativity. The meals are generally 30 minutes from preparation to plate and the three I have made so far have been a hit with my husband and children (who are meat eaters)

There are alot of substitute products on the market which try to entice non-meat eaters to buy "healthier" products that resemble the same fast food meat product the person is trying to stop eating. (if you are looking for a substitute, do you reeeeeaaaaalllllyy want to give up meat?)

This is not one of those books that encourages and/or provides many meat substitutions or requires you to buy many specialist products/ingredients. Whereas there are a few recipes that call for tempah, tofu, vegan butter, etc in general the ingredients required can be found in yor supermarket and the use of foods I needed for a week did not inrease my weekly food budget. This book will encourage you to enjoy natural, wholesome foods with little processing or preparation.

I own a lot of vegan cook books and this one is by far the best one. Tempeh bacon and scrambled eggs are fantastic. Every recipe is really good. I often just open the book randomly and I'm never disappointed. Also all the ingredients are easy to find and you have most of them around the house which is important for me.
My only "complaint" is that this book would be perfect if they'd have nutritional value of the dishes. I would actually buy another copy if they'd revise it and put it in.
Great book.

Full of interesting recipes and food combinations I would never have thought of! Some of the ingredients listed are not readily available in UK but you can usually find something to sub in. Overall a very handy cookbook to have.
