Product Description

Review

This book shows that you do indeed have time to crochet. It's full of great projects that can be finished in 30 minutes. This is the perfect book for all those who say 'I wish I had time - ' All the projects are shown at the front of the book with small pictures. The projects are divided into beginner, intermediate and experienced so this book has something for everyone, no matter what your skills. The projects are very good, practical and useful too. You'll find everything from crocheted acorns, owl mask, finger puppets and scarves and a lot more. There's things for the kids, items for the home and gifts galore. I love the bunny egg cosy and the stacking pots. The little hedgehog and other animals are very sweet too. Never crocheted before or need to refresh your skills? There's a comprehensive guide to crochet at the back of the book. An excellent book to buy for yourself or to give as a gift.-yarnsandfabrics.co.uk/crafts So, what can you crochet in just 30 minutes? A quick browse through Carol Meldrum's book reveals that you can actually accomplish quite a lot in a short space of time. I love the layout of Carol's latest book, the project grid at the front lets you see all the makes at a glance and the photography is very clear. I can think of lots of crochet friends who would appreciate this book and I have already seen lots of autumnal crochet wreaths, inspired no doubt by the patterns here for a tiny toadstool, acorns and leaf motifs. There's a very useful techniques section, which I road tested at a beginner crochet class last week. The ladies all agreed they would be tempted to pick it up and "Have a go", in fact I've heard since that two have added it to their Christmas list! The projects are divided into beginner, intermediate and experienced level patterns, which means that everyone can find something to suit their skills, and nothing boosts the confidence of a new crocheter than completing a project listed as "intermediate". If you're stuck for some present inspiration this Christmas, this book might fit the bill. I can see it appealing to younger crocheters, who will love the cutesy owls, bunny and fox. For the more experienced, there is lots of inspiration to be had as many of the patterns lend themselves to other projects. You could add some crochet applique to a cushion perhaps or whip up a few snowflakes to make a festive garland. Published by Search Press and available now, this definitely gets the "thumbs up"! http://bakingandmaking.com/2013/11/01/review-30-minute-crochet/ Crafters who are pressed for time, or those just starting out, will love this collection of 60 speedy and easy-to-hook projects. Make fun and quirky accessories, motifs and embellishments for bags or cushions and pretty homewares. This is perfect for last minute gifts.-Simply Crochet

The patterns in this book are lovely, for a beginner some are obviously a bit ambitious as 30 minute makes but having "won't take you all day " in the title just doesn't have the same ring to it. The problem I have with this book is it is full of mistakes and unless you have been crocheting a while you may end up with some peculiar finished items. These patterns seem like they have been translated from US terms to UK terms without being double checked. Sometimes it is easy to solve a pattern issue by thinking in US terms but some of it is just bad pattern writing. I appreciate the effort the author has put in to designing these lovely items but a lot of hard work has been wasted due to daft mistakes.

I admit I am addicted to crochet and all crochet paraphernalia, and have been for 35 years. I have many books that show me how to do the same things in different ways and I love them. However, this book was hugely disappointing and I hate saying it. I was looking for some quick easy projects for when my brain was tired but I feel even for a complete beginner this book is a waste of money and time. Sorry again, but most of these, and better, are available free on Pinterest.

I don't know if everything really does take half an hour or less, yet. But the instructions are clear, and the pictures are appealing and clear as well. There is a comprehensive list of what the yarn types mean, and a conversion chart for US/UK terms (so helpful as I learned from YouTube and didn't realise there were two sets!). Stitches are explained nicely and I think that if I didn't already know how to crochet, this book would give me a great start.

I always remember my Mum telling me that she tried to learn to crochet and got stuck on turning after making chains and anyway just going backwards and forwards was boring!. I'd say that if you try learning by making something from this book - something you can use right away - it will be much more rewarding. And the quickness of the projects means that almost everyone can find time to have go! :)

I bought this book for me, I thought it would be useful as I do a lot of crochet for a Charity I volunteer for. Nice book, but a bit misleading as 30 mins is only the actual crochet time and u can easily take that much time and maybe more to make up the finished item. Despite that I like it

A handy book with lots of different items that are good gifts for friends or family. I especially liked the Zombie pin badge, which I made for my son who is currently going through a Zombie phase.

As an occasional crochet-er, I'm not sure all of the projects could be completed by me in half an hour, but they all look simple enough.
The instructions are easy enough to understand, There are how to diagrams for us less competent, and the materials are in UK English rather than US English so no interpretations of wool weights needed for me!

I was pleased that it has a varied content of projects . I found that there are projects that take half an hour but all lot of them take longer to create and they do not mention how in some of the projects you have to sew parts together, preparation depending on the project if need be etc. for example the small projects like the jewellery or flowers may take approx. 30 minutes but the things you make that include crocheting a number of motifs to sew together to make up the project such as the scarf, purse or runner. It does have some mistakes which you have to look out for unfortunately but they are easy enough to work out . The projects are very enjoyable to do and look almost the same as they do when made as they are in the book, which I have noticed that it seems to be a rare occurrence in most crochet/knitting books.
