The Council tax band info is particularly useful. Anyone who has ever called a call centre will appreciate Day 15, as will anyone fed up with being charged premium rates to call in to complain about something! There is also a very clear guide to savings & Debts (Credit cards etc.) which I've not seen explained better. This book has something for everyone, from State pensions, to Life cover, mortgages and much more. The amount of research that has been done in order to find the best places to find information is impressive.
In addition the author is offering a free email update service too, so you can be sure of keeping ahead of the game.
I am sure you will save more than the cost of this book by following at least one of the tips, and if not you'll at least be confirming that you are doing well already! Buy this and save yourself some time, effort, and most of all money!
While the advice is great in general, and will most likely save an individual money, I felt much of it was common knowledge. Anyone with even a little understanding of managing their finances will have previously come across most of these potential savings, e.g. turning the heating down by a degree, switching energy provider, making sure you're paying the correct amount of tax, etc. This book will likely save you money, but it might not be by the end of the first chapter as stated!
What made this book unique to others I've read were the references to tools and apps which can be used to find the best deals or provide insight into whether money can be saved, e.g. checking you're in the correct council tax band.
Informative, easy to read, and a great purchase for the price.
The booklet is in an 'easy-read' with a punchy style that allows the reader to dip into the content in short bursts (the tag-line is "5 minutes per day"). If you are savvy enough to want to control your finances this is the book for you, and I recommend it.
While its designed to be a 30 day money plan (which works very well), it can easily be read like a conventional book or even kept as a handy "pocket guide" which you can dip in and out of when you feel inspired to make another positive change to your finances.
I can't emphasise enough just how good this book is. This is not one of those books that is full of waffle and over-hyped nonsense, it is a well researched, well written and extremely well put together money saving plan.
Buy it, read it and do what it says and I guarantee the book will have paid for itself before the end of the first chapter.
I didnt learn anything new from it and the fact that at the end it directs you to his website and encourages you to get in touch with a financial adviser affiliated to him means the whole book is a bit of a paid for advertising
I'm a professional financial adviser so I didn't expect too many surprises, and indeed most of the items I had covered, but even I will save the cost of the book easily by taking a couple of 2 minute actions. More to the point this book is packed with tips that I've been reminded I should pass on to friends, family and clients more frequently.
Also, as an adviser I thoroughly endorse all the ideas contained- they're ones that I use myself and find really work. My personal favorite is the 'Big Picture Budgeting' which I've been using for years to roughly keep on budget for seconds a month.
I've been a fan of Damien and his Money to the Masses website for a while now and it's great to see him break through into another format.
Damien's enthusiasm comes across really well and his writing style is engaging. Even if you have already e.g. changed your energy supplier and paid off your credit cards, you will still find something useful here and save a little more with each idea you implement.
