have you noticed how sellers employ price per litre / per gram or per Kg?
If you're trying to work out what is the best value product you need to know how much a litre of dried mealworms weighs right?

so in exchange for the massive effort of clicking the helpful button...

1 litre of dried mealworms weighs 175 grams
This is 2 Kg sack of them so 2000 (grams) divided by 175 (grams) means you are getting 11.42 litres in this sack..

The other clue that this appears to be the best value is that I bought it and I am tight!

Note that this was supplied by 123DIRECT. Reading other reviews, I was surprised to find my own order arrived in a plastic tub, not the perforated plastic sack mentioned by others. It was labelled "2KG WILD BIRD DRIED MEALWORMS" but was clearly under weight. I weighed the tub - gross weight 986g (see photo), of which worms were 818g and tub was 168g. A bit naughty really, and I've asked 123DIRECT/Amazon for rectification/credit.

2kg would have been nice. Note - I ordered these directly from Maltbys, not another seller.

These mealworms look okay, and the birds seem to like them as much as any of the others. Although the price was good for 2kg, that's not what arrived. We ended up with 1.8kg. This is the first time we've bought these in bulk and, knowing how light these are, I was expecting a far larger bag and decided to weigh them just in case there was a second bag on the way. Turns out that they were almost right.

Some folks have complained about a lot of debris included with the mealworms but we have seen very little after decanting some into sealable tubs, so that was not a problem for us.

The non-resealable bag means that decanting these into sealable containers is wise, if you can do that. Horse feed supplements tend to come in large tubs, so that's the sort of thing that is probably best. These things will tend to stink a place out if you allow them to, so whatever you decide, you're not going to want these sharing your living space except in something airtight.

Then again, if your wild bird population is as large (and as spherical) as ours they won't last for more than a few weeks anyway!

-2* for the short-changing. Must do better.

I don't love them but the local birds do and I think these are the best buy. The mealworms arrived on time, in a large strong re-sealable bag though, I have transferred them into a metal dustbin, we have rats about. The weather has been cold and snowing, we have many bird visitors and they seem to enjoy every mouthful.

I always add these mealworms to a robin and songbird mix seed, and thoroughly mix in. The birds absolutely love them.
It would be a complete waste of money to put them in a bird feeder on their own, they would just be gone! If you love to see the birds feeding, be a bit sparing and then you can enjoy their company!

I have bird feeders containing peanuts and a seed mixture in the garden, to which I thought I would add some meal worms because of the great reviews. The birds in my garden love the peanuts, second best is the seed mixture, but so far (after 5 days) they will not touch the meal worms. I will give it another week to evaluate and update this review.
.... Many weeks later.... Decided to throw the mealworms away, birds definitely not interested.

Good quality mealworms, delivered fairly promptly. They are a good, high-protein meal for birds & the fish & newts in my pond. One star deducted for the single-wrapping though, as it stunk out my porch, and remains smelly even in the garage. Perhaps a double-wrapped packaging, at least for delivery purposes, would be better, not to mention the poor van driver...?!

Only 1.8 KG of product was provided, not 2KG as stated. I normally pour the worms into 2 containers which fill up. I got suspicious when one container only filled half-way. Shame as normally a good provider. Weighed it and was well short.
