An excellent book with studies ranging in standard from grade 2 to 5. Whilst designed to improve technique they are
terrific pieces in their own right and most enjoyable to play, suitable for any age and well worth adding to one's repertoire.

This educational masterwork has been continuously in print since about 1870. Every Piano Teacher I know uses this book with improvers of approx grade 2 to grade 6 standard. The works show real compositional skill and musicality as well as using exclusively common techniques which are always worth developing.

I can play a little bit and this book is perfect for helping you play with both hands together, without going really mental. It has helped me improve slowly and I fully intend to get the next book up.

I must admit, I'd never actually heard of J.F.Burgmuller before my Piano teacher introduced me to his work, after saying her mother had played his pieces continually. She bought me this book, and I'm very impressed. On the front cover, this book states the studies are progressive, which they are, and they vary in difficulty, I'd say roughly grades 4-5, as I'm just beginning grade 5 work. I think his style will suit Chopin fans, as he frequently uses ornaments and scales in his pieces. Although I haven't learned all of them yet, these studies provide a varied selection of Burgmuller's works. Would highly recommend.

A years old favourite of teachers. These easier pieces (about Grades 2 - 4) can make simple playing sound really amazing, and cover lots of different skills.

Classic studies for the Grade 2-5 player - among the best, if not the best. These pieces are truly inspiring, each being a characterful miniature in the romantic style first and foremost, and featuring a technical element second to this. They demand great musicality, and can be used as studies in interpretation as much as technique, and therefore make superb concert pieces. The standard evenly progresses from about Grade 2 to 5 UK, making it a great book for the 'rising' Grade One player to work through, along with other material, as repertoire. The later pieces are also great for a 'quick learner' or holiday piece for a Grade 6er. Although the challenges are real and varied, the writing possesses an accessibility for the student - no 'nasty surprises', clear understandable writing, a quick vision of the 'end game', and an easy 'way in'. They also 'work' at very varied tempi, making slow practice productive in working at the musical aspects, and providing inspiration for the student. An essential classic!

Required at short notice for my daughters piano lessons. Book arrived swiftly in the post in good condition. Can't comment on content as requested by the piano teacher, but my daughter seems content.
