What an absolutely superb album!!

These 14 songs (16 on the Deluxe edition) showcase both the amazing songwriting talents and the still magnificent vocal performances of Stevie Nicks. She covers it all here - from the Rolling Stones-like rock of the opener 'Starshine', to the beautiful ballad 'She Loves Him Still', the pop rock of 'The Dealer', the darkness of 'Mabel Normand' and 'I Don't Care', the honky tonk of 'Cathouse Blues', and the absolutely stunning powerhouse of 'Lady'. The lyrics are fantastically penetrating and confessional, the musical arrangements are totally appropriate and rewarding, and Nicks is the absolute mistress of manipulating her voice to sound so tenderly fragile, like on the beautiful 'Blue Water' (which also features Lady Antebellum), to the rasping rocker we have known and loved since 'Edge of Seventeen'.

I urge everyone who likes a Fleetwood Mac or Stevie tune to buy this without delay - you are going to be so impressed and I gurantee that after even one listening this is going to be on repeat in your player for a long time to come.

I'd give it 6 stars if I could!!

A very surprising album. I'm a Stevie fanatic but I thought that this album would just be 'good' but it's truly outstanding. Every track has something special about it. If you're not necessarily a Stevie Nicks fan but just like music in general, buy this album and you'll enjoy it nevertheless. BUY IT!!!

one of the most unmistakeable female vocalists of our time!

although not a new studio album...it is tracks previously not released or recorded...many from 1969 - 87...they all have the stevie hallmark!

"starshine" is obviously an early song...if you love fleetwood mac its for you x

"the dealer" is a beatiful song.....great lyrics and with her "bella donna vibe"

"mabel normand" is one of them classic stevie songs...its a like a less 80's feel of "i cant wait" or "stand back" ....a true classic!

"blue water" is so laid back and chilled....beautiful!

"cathouse blues" is very bluesy...not my thing....!

"24 karat gold" is a true stevie classic...with all the feel of her solo albums...it could be one of the best songs she has ever wrote/recorded! why has it been hidden away for so long!

"hard advice"....beautiful and lyrically amazing...a great country / blues track!

"lady" is ok...it just seems to go on and on....well they can't all be stunning!

"i don't care" one word "beautiful"...great timeless track!

"all the beautiful worlds" is classic stevie in the 80's....amazing!!!

"belle fleur" ...not my cup of tea.....obviously early 70's...more a fleetwood track than a stevie

"if you were my love" an ok track but doesnt seem to go anywhere!

"carousel" ...another classic...laid back country feel...nice but not as amazing as some of the tracks!

"she still loves him" beautiful lyrics...but it seems to go on and on...

although not every track is a masterpeice....(what album is!!!) there is more than enough on here to blow any stevie fan or a fleetwood mac expert!!!

some simply amazing tracks...whatever stevie you like!

Stevie Nicks has given us so much over the years and she rarely disappoints so well done again for a set of great songs.
She has always written wonderful heartfelt songs and out and out rockers too - She is fantastic live too in and out of Fleetwood Mac
of which She has been a major contributor since the Fleetwood Mac album before Rumours.
Long live Stevie LOVE HER AND HER MUSIC.

Bought this after getting the In Your Dreams CD and loving it. At first I was disappointed by the songs on 24 Karat Gold, as although each one is excellent music, they all seemed to sound the same. However after listening to it a few times it has grown on me, and currently is one of my favourites (second of course to In Your Dreams, which is outstandingly good).

Something of a surprise this. Most of this album you would rank as 'country rock' in the vein of say Sheryl Crow but there are a few surprises here and there. Starting with the 'kick booty' rocker 'Starshine' which is sure to become a live favourite, other highlights include 'Mabel Normand' with great guitar from Waddy Watchel, a reworking of 'Twisted' (which was heard in more folksy form on the soundtrack to 'Twister'), the understated title track 24 Karat Gold and the wistful 'All the Beautiful Worlds' in which Stevie laments 'All the beautiful worlds I've seen so far have all fallen down'. Elsewhere Stevie goes into 'angry madam' mode for heavy rocker 'I don't care' spitting out the words '"Love is blind, but not this time!". But it's really the last six tracks where this album really hits home. Starting with another album highlight 'Hard Advice' (which is reputedly about Tom Petty) the song has Stevie at her impassioned best with a sublime last few bars to finish. After that yet another highlight is 'Carousel' which with its folksy world view recalls Joni Mitchell's 'The Circle Game' and deserves to be as well liked as that great song. On side 4 there's the soulful 'Blue Water' leading into another surprise 'Cathouse Blues' which sees Stevie singing playfully with a jazz/blues ensemble. The penultimate track is another highlight and probably the most instantly 'accessible' track on the album 'The Dealer'. A fine country rocker this which should be a big hit single if there was any justice in the world. Finishing the album is the folksy 'She Loves Him Still' with acoustic guitars and Irish tin whistles for accompaniment.Read more ›
