★★★★ 2020 - The Year We Were All Cancelled! ★★★★★

Stella, former political cartoonist for the Morning Star from 2015-2020, now the weekly cartoonist at uncancelled.co.uk, revisits 2020, the strangest year of our lives.

Stella is known in the radical feminist world for her uncompromising, yet unmalicious style. To quote the Morning Star's Arts reviewer: "She is one of this country's most incisive political cartoonists... she frequently subverts the mundanity of the everyday with barbed commentaries on the political scene".

We could say that post Second World War was a period of greater civil rights and also protection for ordinary people to participate in politics - this extraordinary book is warning us to what is happening now - the closing down of open and critical speech and the failure of the Left in particular to defend - unfortunately they are the pioneers, along with religious extremists who are closing down speech. Also Stella's story is very unfortunate and that she was threatened and attacked in such despicable ways should be a warning to us all. I highly recommend this book and think Stella is a brilliant and imaginative science fiction and political cartoonist. Let's hope she gets the recognition and support of other cartoonists, artists and political leaders.

This collection of cartoons, interspersed with news clips and captions, charts 2020. There isn't a page for everyday but the message is clear. It was a highly charged year where much changed and, even worse, alot was under attack. Stella was basically fired from her job as a political cartoonist because she picked the 'wrong' subject as a topic for a cartoon. I should say I differ politically from Stella (who was the cartoonist for a left wing paper with communist links) however it's simply not right that free speech is being curtailed.
As for the cartoons in this book, I found them well drawn and some made me chuckle. Political commentary such as this book is a vital part of any free society and the fact that there's censorship occuring in publishing is a problem that affects us all.
