While it does indeed have the same lamp base as a G9 bulb the upper part is about eight times bigger than the standard halogen bulb. Accordingly it would not fit in my reading lamp.
The supplier has already credited a refund in advance of receiving the returned goods so 5* plus for that.
They suggest that I am being unfair in my criticism of the product description. I've thought about this and I'm prepared to accept that I'm being slightly harsh.
I'm still not sure that the photograph looks in proportion to the device received but accept that the dimensions are provided in the blurb. However I would suggest a clearer indication of the oversize nature of the device would make the situation more obvious.
Didn't fit the glass cup but took the cup off and the bulb is so cute that looked very well without the cover! Going to leave it that way, with the plus side that the covers won't diminish the light anymore.
About the brightness it is actually brighter than the EcoHalo 28W->40W from Philips! Loved the light tone as well. Going to order more for the other lamps in the house now, very worth it!
I would say that there is little difference in brightness between our old G 9's and these.
The look of them is also great, very modern! You of course need to consider the extra length, but inside shades shouldn't be a problem, ours weren't.
Save money, buy some!
All were very impressive and brighter than the standard 25W which looked a dull yellow when compared side by side. The 1.9W has all the LEDs facing forward so acts a little more like a spot light than a regular bulb but good amount of light still comes out sides. The 2.5W with silver base is longer and has additional LEDS around the circumference so it puts out a more radial light. The 2.5W ceramic puts out good radial light from the domed bulb.
If size was no issue I would probably go for the 2.5W with silver base. However at 24mm diameter it was just too big for my glass tubes on ceiling light (but fit into larger tubes on floor standing light). Both the 23mm diameter 1.9W and 18mm diameter 2.5W fit into my ceiling light. I prefer the radial light from the 2.5W than the more forward directed light from the 1.9W.
So if it will fit then this 2.5W is great, if you need a smaller diameter try the 18mm 2.5W which although different visually still works very well.
I would argue that for now this is the best there is and if the price does not dissuade you; then it will not disappoint.
Now, instead of 480w burning away (and so very hot) I have 30w and, as said elsewhere, don't need to worry about lights left on. 10 hours of usage equates to 300w (under a third of a kilowatt) as set against 4.8Kw consumption previously.
The light dispersal is even, the quality is good and is subjectively brighter than my previous G9s.
