Product description

Product Description

Fascinating project to recreate a 1930s Jazz recording session using original equipment and leading specialist musicians which resulted in a remarkably authentic sound. Early in 2010 Lake Records, one of the UK's leading specialist Jazz labels initiated a project to recreate a small, 7 piece band Jazz recording of the 1930s. The idea was not to recreate a particular band, but to evoke an era and a sound. To that end a group a group of musicians who were sympathetic to, and experienced in, 1930s Jazz was assembled. The pedigree of the musicians includes playing (variously) with The Pasadena Roof Orchestra, The Charleston Chasers, The Back To Basie Orchestra, The Kings Of Swing, Harry Gold's Pieces Of Eight and Bob Hunt's Duke Ellington Orchestra. To complete the recreation the only recording equipment used was a single original 1930s RCA R44 ribbon microphone and valve equipment. The resulting recordings surpassed expectations possessing a warm, natural sound enhanced by superlative playing. The recording session was filmed for a documentary programme and a 4 minute film clip is added to the CD.
