From the Inside Flap
A guide to creating results through focus, commitment, and accountability
The 12 Week Year is a process forged in the field of sports, used by world-class athletes and transformed for business and everyday life by Brian P. Moran and Michael Lennington.
This is not a book of theory. The 12 Week Year has been vetted by thousands of clients and hundreds of companies, and is backed by years of real life experience. In this groundbreaking book, the authors unlock the simple secret to help you accomplish more.
What differentiates truly great performers and organizations from mediocre ones is an ability to effectively execute on what they know. There is a gap for most of us between what we know we should do, and what we are actually willing to do. This knowing-doing gap is what keeps most people and most companies from accomplishing what they are capable of.
The 12 Week Year incorporates the proven disciplines and principles of effective execution into the context of 12-week execution cycles. In the book, you'll discover how to develop clarity and focus on what matters most and a healthy sense of urgency to get it done. You'll learn how to:
- Take back control of your day
- Increase your income
- Balance the priorities in your life
- Lower your stress
- Accomplish your goals in record time

The book has helped me to think about those few critical tasks that would add the most value to achieving results. You can control your actions but not your results, but you stand a good chance of achieving your target if you complete the tasks on your 12 week plan.
You need to think about what it is you really what to achieve from life that is what are you life/business goals. Visualise those goals. And align your weekly tasks to your long term goals. In short spend time doing those tasks that will help achieve your goals.
Think hard about your goals. Visualise them. Write them down. Keep them to hand. Then set about planning the tasks or tactics required to achieve them.
An easy book to read, you can complete over weekend.
Really feels a well structured and complete book, not a half stepped book where the author gives you some ideas and leaves you to it
Top international reviews
If your intention is to actually do the work and write down your visions and your 12-week plan, then you won't find this book to be repetitive at all. You will appreciate that the author is continuously cementing this 12-week Year concept into your mind. However, if your intention is to read this book like a novel from cover to cover and write nothing down and try to make a 12 week year plan in your head, well then, don't bother.
The main themes of the book were as follows:
1) Shorten your feedback loop on goals that you set. Hence the 12 Week language.
2) Prioritize your time by blocking it off through a weekly plan.
3) Measure your execution regularly, and work to improve it.
4) Focus your goals and join a community for accountability.
The language, the examples, and the constant promotion of their “workshop” was not value adding to the book. Even the examples—which were mostly if not all sales examples—did not have details.
The worksheets examples were dated and lacking detail. Also, the authors repetition of the same concepts watered down the books good nuggets of wisdom.
I have been setting goals for the last 10 years, and I have used many techniques. I also have read multiple books, even attended seminars.
This book and the ideas in this book, blows everything else out of the water.
I am just on my 1st 12 week plan , and I am very laser-focussed on the few and important goals I have for this current 12 week.
The beauty about the idea(12 week year) is that you always have a sense of urgency to complete you goals. At the same time, you are not setting 100 goals and become over-whelmed and discouraged because of multiple goals.
Every company should adopt this as part of their strategy - ditch the annual reviews and start creating 12 week reviews.
It’s weird because I’ve always known of the 12 week year in some form or the next, but somehow reading about it in this book was just what I needed to fully understand it and to actually apply it in my life.
Now it’s a regular part of my life and because I have so many goals that I’m currently attaining (after accomplishing nothing for years) I use it every day.
if your an entrepreneur I believe you will definitely benefit from shortening timeframes down to 90 day blocks of focused effort but if your creating things you will know there are various moving parts that this method of using tactics will not accomodate
I think the author has tactics confused with tasks and routines
Anyways still had some handy tips and slightly different approaches to planning that I will use
