Festival, Rhino and Warner Music Australia present an Australian first! '12 Inch Dance: Australian 80s Pop' includes 37 rare extended versions of great Australian hits of the '80s from the likes of Icehouse, Real Life, Kids In The Kitchen, Split Enz, Pseudo Echo, I'm Talking, The Dugites, Kate Ceberano, Hunters & Collectors, Eurogliders, Boom Crash Opera, Models, Flowers, Wa Wa Nee, Stephen Cummings and more. The majority of these mixes have never been reissued in any format, and have never before been digitised. Fans of any/all featured bands - and of Australian music and '80s music in general - will be thrilled by this release! The 1980s was of course the decade the 12" single came into its own. More than just a marketing tool, it enabled fresh and expansive remixes of dance-oriented pop tracks which were perfect for club DJ's and those wanting to hit the dancefloor to their favourite radio hits. '12 Inch Dance: Australalian 80s Pop' is a uniquely Australian addition to Rhino UK's own '12 Inch Dance' series of 3CD Releases, which features a massive list of the biggest international pop artists of the era. Compiled by writer David Nichols (former Australian Smash Hits features editor in the '80s, co-author of 'Pop Life: Inside Smash Hits Australia' and author of new book 'Dig: Australian Rock and Pop Music 1960-85.'
There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
Some examples include:
- Catch Me I'm Falling (Extended Version) which has an horrific edit at the start not present in the original 12"
- So Much For Love (Rock Mix) which appears to drop out in the left speaker a few seconds in and never recovers
- Cut The Talking (Extended Remix) - clearly a vinyl rip of a mix I was looking forward to on CD
The only song in the credits which clearly states it is a vinyl rip is I'm Talking's "Someday". The mastering volume is also all over the place. If you want a collection of great Australian 80s songs, go for it, but don't expect the best quality.
Liner notes indicate a possible Vol 2 - can't wait i.e. Dragon - Rain (US Mix)
I note the review with one star and will knock a star off, shame they did not locate the master tapes if available (Warners). I'm Talking - Someday is a great 12 inch mix. I do understand the disappointed of the one star review but surely worth a 3 or 4 stars.
