Book Description

Fall for 1000 things to do in London, all over again

About the Author

Founded in 1968, Time Out has grown from humble beginnings into the leading resource for anyone wanting to know what’s happening in the world’s greatest cities. Alongside our influential weeklies in London, New York, Chicago and Dubai, we publish more than 20 magazines in cities as varied as Beijing and Beirut; a range of travel books, with City Guides now joined by pocket-sized Shortlist series; and an information-packed website. The company remains proudly independent, still owned by Tony Elliott four decades after he launched Time Out London. Written by local experts, and illustrated with original photography, our books also retain their independence. No business has been featured because it has advertised, and all restaurants and bars are visited and reviewed anonymously.

I've lived in or near London for a number of years and have exhausted a lot of the "known" things to do (even those known to just Londoners as opposed to tourists) so bought the book to build up a new list of things to do and see.

There are a number of interesting things in there that I probably would not have otherwise discovered, but, I did feel that the book was padded out to reach the magic 1,000 number. It also suffers the drawback of being written at a point in time and the advent of the internet (and of course Time Out's own website) means you can probably find a lot of unique things without it.

That said, it remains on the coffee table for reference on those idle weekends and I don't regret the purchase, but I did expect more from it.

I've lived in London for 10 years but haven't really done any "London Stuff" for the last few. So I decided I wanted to see more of the city and was recommended this book by a friend. It's full of wonderful and really interesting ideas and also reminded me of things that I had always meant to do and never got around to. Also any of the ideas that I have done within the book I have found really cool. Its a definite must for Londoners.... If you want to have a completely random day out, just pick a number, look it up in the book and do whatever it suggests!

Ventured into Gelupo, Archer Street, Soho to test Time Out's '2012 things to do in London'. At number 1, I had high hopes of what I might find: simply the best ice-cream in the world, and the most welcoming of staff. If the other 2011 things turn out to be as good ... I'm in for a good year.
