The quality of the pieces is good and the colors and texture are excellent -- reminds me the most of Gibsons with a slightly waxy feeling that gives it a heavy quality. But what I really adored was the unusual piece shapes. Whereas most of the puzzles I do have standard piece shapes, thet HOP puzzles have very unusual shapes. Some pieces are round or oblong with no holes or knobs, some are the size of two pieces, some are smaller, etc. It made the whole puzzle very interesting and more challenging than usual. Even if a piece doesn't have a knob, once you build in the pieces that surround it, it locks in tightly. I really am eager to do more HOP puzzles and have already ordered many more because I liked the unusual shapes so much and I haven't seen them elsewhere.
I also really liked the art style on these puzzles. Most of the HOP puzzles are done by Ray Cresswell or Keith Stapleton. I enjoy the bright colors and somewhat cute style. Ray Cresswell is particularly good--I love his Plum Jam and Cider Makers also.
Finally, I loved the concept of this series -- Find the Differences. The puzzle you put together has 15 differences from the picture on the lid. So it is close enough that you can use the lid picture for the basic skeleton of the puzzles -- for example, the inn and the boats and water and tree in this image. But there are small changes, and I found myself a few times momentarily confused. For example, putting together a bird wing and thinking 'this can't be right, the bird is going the other way so the tip should be to the right'!Read more ›
[We actually found 18 rather than the suggested 15].
We have several dozen `House of Puzzles` jigsaws......all are very nice and the `odd` shape of many of the pieces make them a little different to build up.
