This book is a beautiful collection of patterns laid out with a brief description (usually including the date, artist and it's origin where possible). It is extremely useful for anyone who needs a reference or inspiration for pattern and colour. It is a joy to own!

HASH(0x9f9bb8e8) out of 5 stars Fantastic Idea Source 10 Aug. 2012
By Amazon Customer - Published on
Format: Paperback
I found this book at my local library. I am an artist and work in several mediums. I found this book to be a wonderful source of ideas and inspiration. Along with high quality color photos the text provides an inspiring amount of information. The book is seperated in sections geographicaly by pattern source location and time period. The text explains the pattern source be it fabric, painting, or by hand along with its use. I found the detailed descriptions of motiff and design source facinating. Reference to original idea source, symbolic motiff, ceramonial use, and historical details (The tartan was reintroduced after George IV's state visit to Scotland in 1822. It had been outlawed after the Jacobite uprising of 1745). If nothing else it makes a great book for the pictures alone.

HASH(0x9f9bb918) out of 5 stars Fantastic overview mix 8 Oct. 2007
By Jason D. Cheetham - Published on
Format: Paperback
My beautiful fiance was ecstatic to open a package to a wonderful and simple to follow introduction to textile pattern history. The examples are bright, clear and varied. This is a great resource for anyone serious about being able to place patterns within their geographical/historical time period.
