3.0 out of 5 stars Beware - 0% funk! 6 Aug. 2002
By Boehi Peter - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
The CD's title "100% pure funk" is completely misleading - this album doesn't contain a single funk track. Instead we get a bunch of swinging organ tracks with sax and guitar from the 60ies. The CD is nice if you are into this type of jazz but in case you are after the funk stuff from Jimmy McGriff ("Outside Looking In", "Tailgunner" etc.) then this album is definitely NOT for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars 100% Pure Fun 23 Jun. 2009
By Fish1066 - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
If you are a McGriff fan, you MUST own this. While - in some people's minds - it may not be "pure funk", it is great, upbeat jazz organ with outstanding horn blowing and cool guitar riffs. Never one to hog the stage, Jimmy let's his sidemen play and play, they do. If you're not a pretentious "purist", and just want a cool disc to groove to, buy this - you won't regret it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cover Art What Cover Art? 18 May 2009
By Henrik Larsen - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This CD is poorly produced. The sound tracks sound like second takes - while worth while they were the ones who ended on the floor post-production. My greatest complaint is that the cover art specifies the track name and number, but no information on recording date or the musicians used for the track. I would have liked to know when this was recorded and who was on the session, alas this is not available. Hence, the album is just like listening to elevator music - although groovier.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not funk but. . . 6 July 2007
By FunkyTown - Published on Amazon.com

a damn fine piece of work. Yes this album is totally mistitled. Be aware of that. Like the reviewer below me mentions, this consists mostly of metronome-tight organ grooves reminiscent of a more Jimmy Smith-type style. I bought this out of the bargain bin because some fool didn't see the value. And no, it wasn't the FONK that I thought it would be but it's still a great listen.
4.0 out of 5 stars Great jazz/blues and excellent sidemen. 2 Sept. 2015

Great album, can't believe all the complaints from fans of "funk." Clean your ears... I'd love to know who played guitar, piano/electric piano, and sax on this album.
