The product picture is unclear, but under careful inspection looks like a single link DVI-D cable, that's the cable where the outputs from left to right look like a minus shape followed by a 3x3 grid of pins, then a gap where 6 more pins should be, then another 3x3 grid. A single link DVI-I cable has a plus shape with a pin in each of the four corners of the plus, followed by 3x3 grid, then the gap, then a 3x3 grid. Dual link cables have those gaps filled with a 2x3 grid of 6 pins. DVI-A cables look like a single link DVI-I but with some more pins missing, but they're rare so you won't get one of those.
Dual-link cables can support large resolutions of over 1080p at good frame-rates, while the single link cables cannot. DVI-D (minus shape) cables carry a digital signal, DVI-A (plus shape) carry an analogue and DVI-I ("integrated", plus shape) can carry both.
As you can expect, a minus shaped adapter (DVI-D) will fit into a plus shaped (DVI-I) hole, but not the other way around. Because this product page doesn't specify whether this is a DVI-I cable or a DVI-D one, you must assume that you'll be sent the wrong one!
Therefore, you should only buy this cable if:
1) Both of your devices (your graphics card and your monitor) have DVI-I sockets, that's the one with the plus-shaped hole not the minus shaped slot. If you purchase this item you could get a DVI-I cable which doesn't fit in a DVI-D slot, like I did. Check before purchasing!
2) The maximum resolution of your monitor must be 1080p or under (1920x1080). If you have an awesome monitor that does higher resolutions then this is not the cable for you. Go and find a dual-link DVI-D cable instead.
If your requirements meet both of these constraints then go ahead and buy it, otherwise you'll want a single or dual link DVI-D cable.
Don't say you weren't warned.
They sent me a 24 pin cable with a blade, but beside the blade was four extra pins. Look at the picture, any one can see that this is wrong and I know what I ordered and what I wanted.
This is the perfect case of mis advertising, which I have reported to Amazon.
The supplier told me to keep the cables, but they are of no use to me what so ever, but I did get a refund eventually.
Buyer beware the picture is not what I received, but it is what I wanted.
Be aware, many customers seem to be reporting receiving a Single-link cable instead of the Dual-link as advertised, but I couldn't see anyone who had reported receiving a DVI-I cable instead of DVI-D
Currently processing the return to seller, and will hopefully receive the correct cable.
Will report back when the returns process is completed.
