My first "published" work was a two line poem used as the dedication to the first edition of the University of Essex poetry magazine "The Human Handkerchief". At the time, it was the mid-70s after all, I wrote amazingly naff poetry most days - perhaps unusual for a computing undergraduate but I still have them somewhere, in the loft, under lock and key!
I started writing again around 30 years later and in a different form - one-act plays which we produced and which won several awards and festivals. I also started writing stories again, in rhyme, but never seemed able to finish anything. One of those stories, intended as an eighth birthday present for my goddaughter, I used in a play and people really liked it so I was encouraged to finish it. That story was Gee and the Elephant and some 9 years after starting it I have released an illustrated Kindle version!
