I started writing at a young age and over the years I have written a huge amount of poetry, many songs, a number of short stories, and two books. I have also written for theatre. I have lived a life too. One of my first jobs was as a script reader in a literary agent in the film and TV dept. I was given the first episode of East Enders to read. Didn't get it. Good job they didn't listen to me. I'm glad I didn't listen to me too. I love it nowadays, makes me laugh.
I think to be a writer, you have to love reading and I tend to prefer books which depart quite markedly from the mainstream. You will find my books original, very different to anything you will ever have read before. The Unhouse is a children's crossover book. For kids it is a fantastic story, for adults it still works as fantasy but there is an underlying story which is deadly serious. Half a Human Away is a unique mix of science fiction and satire. I write mainly from my imagination, but also draw on personal experiences. Due to long term severe mental health issues, writing has become a valuable coping tool for me and an excellent way of dissipating anger. 'Half A Human Away' was written almost entirely on bits of paper in a forensic psychiatric ward but that doesn't mean it is to be taken seriously, far from it. If you have a sense of humour, or if you don't like to take anything the establishment tells you too seriously, then you should love it.
And by the way is it just me, or does anyone else suspect that Theresa May is an escaped ageing Barbie doll from a second hand toy shop?
