I reading the killing floor of hearing great things about the Jack reacher novels. I was trying to picture him while reading and I thought if it was a film the idea person would be Jack Beauer from 24. Bit of a loner, likes killing people, has similar background. What do others think?
I think they would have to start with "The Enemy" when Reacher is around 28 years old. What about the tall Swede "Jonas AKA basshunter" from CBB. Then they can work their way through the novel in relation to his age. As he is a different age in each book and not necessary in the order the books come out
If you look at some of the some of the book covers (depending on which print you buy) Jack Reacher bears a strong physical resemblance to Lawrence Dallaglio, the ex-England Rugby Player - who is similar in size (6ft 3ins/1.91m and 17st 7lbs/245lbs/111kg). Lee Child, himself, has said that he imagines Reacher to look like Dallaglio. Not sure of his acting ability though. If he could act, I'd choose him. A young Clint Eastwood (during the Dirty Harry era) would've been good. Can't think of any present-day actors that would fit. Someone big, not too pretty and who doesn't talk too much!
Russel Crowe? Nick Nolte - but he's too old now. A young version of Clint Eastwood - but he would be too skinny. There used to be a chap who played Cheyenne Bodie many years ago, he was about the right size and quiet spoken, but I've forgotten his name, I'm sure it was Clint ---something or other? Whoever they finally choose, I hope they pick me for leading lady!!!!!!
We have been discussing this dilemma too - obviously for Hollywood it needs to be a big name but it can't be any of the pretty boys -this means none of the 'twighlight / vampire' boys or any Ashton Kutcher / romantic comedy types. Reacher needs to be big (sort of Dolph Lundgren-esque) but with rough edges which is why Russel Crowe would be good - but I think he's short. My other half reckons Ben Affleck - but he would need to beef up. Everyone was right with Clint Eastwood in the 70's perfect - does he have a son who acts ?
What about the guy who plays the other twin (not Casey Affleck) - Caan ? from the Oceans 11, 12, 13 ?
should be an unknown @ a q&a i asked who he thinks viggo mortesen was mentioned by the studios & hugh jackman but i think they should stay true to the book & cast a new up & coming actor with the phsycality the role deserves!
I have found my Reacher! I just knew that one day I would switch the tv/PC on and there he would be. Check out Peter Vollebregt on IMDB. Am I crazy guys, or could this be HIM? Not too old, brooding, not quite handsome buy easy on the eye. British born but can do a very good american accent (I thought he was a yank).Waddaya think????? http://www.imdb.com/media/rm90476544/nm0901585
On looking at the photo's - could have got something there Mrs Sidnell, but I'd need to see him in action before I'd be convinced about this Dutch/Irish actor. (What have you seen him acting in?) For me, he's a little on the short side at 6'2", and lips a little 'girlie'! And can't tell from the head shots how brawny he is. But definitely one of the best suggestions up to now.
There's a bloke down our local pub called Mick who is Reacher to a 'T'. We're always commenting on it. Unfortunately, he's a plasterer by trade and not an actor. Pity. He's perfect - a living breathing Reacher straight off the page! Uncanny.
Child himself has not been critical about the choice of Tom Cruise. He points out the fact that cinema is a different medium from writing and has professed great faith in the director to come up with something special for 'One Shot'. We'll just have to see. If' it's a turkey, then there's always the books to return to.
