"Due to high demand, customers who pre-ordered from August 7 may receive their consoles after release date, but will get them before Christmas. We will dispatch orders as soon as we receive sufficient stock"
I think you'll be sure to get one before Christmas. To be honest, I'd be pretty surprised if you can't walk into a Game, Asda, Tesco, HMV & buy one a week or so after launch. I just don't think the shortage is as bad as these companies would want you to believe.
I would have thought that Amazon have a higher buying power from the manufacturers than that of high street chains such as Game and HMV who have been in and out of administration. Only the other day it was announced that Blockbusters wont be fulfilling any games console pre-orders due to going back into administration and are sorting out refunds to those who pre-ordered through them.
I'm starting to worry about the before Christmas statement. I have stuck with the solus and they still can't tell me when I will receive it. A friend of mine pre-ordered the same day as me and upgraded to a bundle and he's had it confirmed as release day but with my solus they're still saying they don't know as they haven't heard from Sony.
I hope there will be on shelf stock on the day, I am 100% sure I have seen an article with Sony EU CEO (or something of that title) claiming there will be limited supply on shelf and can hopefully cancel my Amazon pre-order. It's mostly my fault for not pre-ordering when I should have then forgetting, but really since then all their promises of updates (or rumored updates) and their lack of rhyme or reason with sporadic updates that do occur etc has really put me off them.
