Product Description

Product Description

When using on digital SLR (e.g. Nikon D40, D40x, D50, D60, D70, D70s, D80, D90, D100, D200, D300, D5000, D2Xs) a SUPERTELE with an equivalent focal distance of 1200mm results due to the extension of the focal distance by 1,5! (Or rather 2400mm with optional 2x converter)

The walimex pro 800/8.0DX Mirror Tele Lens has a focal distance of 800mm and a good speed of 1:8.0. The sturdy metal housing and the high-quality workmanship and mechanics ensure a good image quality. With a very short closest focusing distance of only 2 metres, the lens enables a very good magnification. Focusing takes place manually. Thanks to the easy handling, the lens is also especially suitable for beginners.

* Important note: Please consider, that on the Nikon models d40, d50, d70, d70s, d80, d90 and d100 the build-in exposure measurement does not work in connection with MF lenses. The exposure measuring must be effected external. All other analogue and digital Nikon models support the exposure measurement and aperture priority with this lens.

Box Contains

walimex pro 800/8.0 DX Mirror Tele
T2 adapter for Nikon AF/MF
high-quality storage bag

walimex pro 800mm f/8.0 DX Tele Mirror Lens for Nikon AF/MF
Owning a 70-300mm VR lens i wanted something a bit more powerful for wildlife, so i opted for the 800mm mirror Lens, and so far it's pretty good, you'll need good light to enable a fast shutter speed.
For £200 you can't go wrong really, yea it's totally manual on my Nikon D5100 but i don't mind, it's easy enough to use.
I've taken some images so far, and the results are not bad.

This will be a short review as I have not had much chance to use it I tried it out in the garden when I first received the lens and found it to be a well built mirror lens and easy to focus. The only hard part was working out the exposure speeds used to get a good picture.Best used with a tripod as it is heavy nearly two kilos in weight and hard to hold steady by hand. Ideal for long shots and wildlife shot where you do not need to move the camera to much as this will result in blurry pictures.Being a mirror lens there is some soft focus to the picture but that can be edited out with a good post processing software which I do not have.Value for money but be prepaired to work for a decent photo. Remember this lens can only be used on the manual setting of you're digital SLR.

Its a good lens but you are limited as to when it can be used as you do need a lot of light. Having said that it is a good lens and l have managed a few good shots with it.

When I ordered the lens I expected that the focussing would be manual but that the metering would be possible in the Aperture and/or shutter priority mode but found it would only work in Manual. I therefore returned the lens as it was not as I envisaged.
In respect of service it was delivered promptly and the return and refund was resolved without delay.
