Survive is an older game, released in 1982. After a recent few games with friends a copy has quickly found its way into our regular line up along with our Eurogames. For us it is a bit of a filler game as it can be played quite quickly and without too much mental agility, it addresses the part of me that wants to see my fellow gamers flushed with anger at my latest diabolical actions.

We are using the 30th anniversary edition and have been very pleased with the quality of both the board and the pieces; I believe that with the older version the mechanics are identical though.

The game is best suited for three or four players so if you're looking for a solely two player game I would advise against this unless you've played it before. We did find when we tried the two player variant that it is best to enforce the rule that you still have to have the majority of a single colour meeple in order to control a boat rather than simply one player's pieces as otherwise it felt slightly game breaking.

The basic premise surrounds moving your meeples from a central island to `safes' on the mainland while traversing ocean tiles and all manner of sea faring beasts that live there. Transport home is best attained by use of the provided boats however as the game descends into hysteria you will find many of your meeples swimming for dear life away from sharks, sea monsters and other dangers. The objective is complicated by the sinking island mechanic, only giving you a certain amount of turns to escape before tile by tile the island sinks, ultimately exposing a volcano which will cut down even the bravest swimming meeple in its prime.

Not to hard but not so easy as to be boring. If you play against soar looses then this game could cause significant conflict but if you are happy to screw each other over, by eating one another with sea monsters and sharks, and yet laugh about it, then your away. Should be a mainstream classic as its so much better than most of the games that are.

My girlfriend has been speaking of this game, and so I thought I'd get her the rerelease. It's been so much fun! Apart from trying to win, there is a added, sometimes suicidal side to the game that lets you foil the progress of others. I loved it. Easy to understand and pretty fluent gaming. I recommend this warmly.

Got this for 9 year old at Xmas and managed to fit in about 10 games during the holidays. Big hit.

Good/simple introduction for younger children into stragic games.

Survive: Escape from Atlantis. One of the most fun games that I've played in a while. The rules are simple and the aim is clear, get all your guys off of Atlantis and to the safety of the surrounding Islands as Atlantis sinks into the sea, which contains sea monsters and will soon fill up with swimmer munching sharks and boat wrecking whales!!
Boats float around the island for you to board and these can be co-opted by more than one player.
Fantastic fun as you screw over your opposition and do your best to keep your little people alive and hopefully save them from the ever sinking Island and all the perils lurking in the sea.
(Several expansions available too, 5/6 Player, Dolphins & Dive Dice and Giant Squid!)

Loved this game as a child and wanted to share it with my kids. This updated edition contains all the good stuff from the original and the improvements are just that. Great game for all the family and a good introduction to more strategic game playing for young kids.

Great game, played with 2-3-4 players, played with the kids and just adults, this is a mean mean game that encourages you to sink the other players life boats then send in the sharks! Probably best not played with sore losers or those that don't like their little people being shark bait.
