5.0 out of 5 stars In a word….WOW! 16 Nov 2013

It’s rare (if ever) you find a book that actually delivers on the promise of the author. Probably like most of us looking for help for whatever reason you have, I have bought many books on self help / pop psychology with the flashy cover and big promises of everlasting happiness only to find that it’s the same old material repackaged. Steve’s book was the last chance saloon so to speak. Well talk about saving the best to last, this book is excellent!!

The best part is that it’s so easy to read and it’s very straight to the point which I like. I’m doing the exercises and I can say YES they are working. I feel better. I feel relaxed and my mind seems clearer. After years of emotional ups and downs I’m asking myself “can it be so easy”? Steve’s book makes you understand your mind in a way that makes it seem so easy. So as you might have gathered I’m delighted with this book and recommend it highly.

5.0 out of 5 stars The very best ever self-help book 10 Jan 2014
This is an update of my initial review, which was good but definitely not good enough!! The more I read of this book (which I initially dipped into rather than reading all the way through) the more I want to highly recommend it. I have collected positive thinking / self help books for over 20 years following hospitalisation because of depression and anxiety, so I've read a lot of them. I dip into them on the (now rare) occasions that I find myself drifting into negative ways. This book is, without a doubt, the very best one that I have ever read. It's easy to read, it's concise, it doesn't patronise and it's massively inspiring. Please, if you are depressed, constantly anxious or angry with the world, and are prepared to put in a little effort for massive returns, then READ THIS BOOK and follow its simple instructions. I cannot recommend it highly enough - it's brilliant!!

5.0 out of 5 stars This book simply makes sense and never insults or diminishes the experiences of people who suffer from these issues. 16 Nov 2013

I'll freely admit to not normally being a true believer or fan of the self help genre, but this book really stood out to me as first an interesting topic and later as simply education in truth.

Steve Norton is a psychotherapist and anxiety specialist from the UK whose training and believe system leads him to believe and teach that we control our thoughts, that we have a power greater than we know to overcome obstacles, fears, and phobias. This goes away beyond the simple power of positive thinking and explains and teaches us in a no nonsense way the truth of our abilities.

This is one of the most thought provoking books that I've read in a long while, As a person suffering from some of the issues that Norton discusses I can honestly say that I see the value in what he is teaching, and I can see how I limit myself in a lot of scenarios. What is very important to note is that Norton never discounts the readers emotions or experiences, yet endeavors to simply show us a different perspective and picture a different possibility.

We all want to live a happy and well adjusted life. We want to overcome our fears, we want to realize our potential and Norton really will make your eyes open a little wider and leave you feeling like you've just been shown something that was just out of your reach for a long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thought Re-Training 6 Nov 2013

The author of this meaningful but easy to comprehend book is Steve Norton, a British hypnotherapist, psychotherapist and anxiety specialist who received his training at Natural Therapy Centre/International college of Holistic Medicine in England. He is also a Thought Field Therapy Algorithm Practitioner and both writes and appears as a public speaker in his field. One of the more interesting aspects of his background, however, is the fact that as a youth he suffered from anxiety attacks. His working motto is, ‘ We can achieve what we set our minds upon. We underestimate the power of our own thoughts. There is nothing more powerful than the Human Mind.’ He is a true believer in positive thought.

Of the plethora of self-help books available both as eBooks and books in print few offer the one on one feeling that Steve Norton offers. His writing is straightforward, uncluttered by hypotheses or an inordinate amount of supplementary papers by others in his field. Reading HOW TO STOP NEGATIVE THINKING feels very like being in therapy session with Norton. He emphasizes that negative thinking and low self-esteem are habits, modes of thinking and of perceiving the world and our place in it that are indeed reversible. The exceedingly accessible principals he teaches emphasize Thought Retraining and his technique is a gradual building of new thought processes that replace those that have been responsible for the fears, phobias, self-doubt and depression that prevent us from living a happy and well adjusted life.

It cannot be emphasized enough to those who are unfamiliar with Norton’s work how supportive is his approach to retraining our thought processes. As he states early on, this book is a guide book that will train the reader by explaining how our thoughts control our emotions, how our feelings are being controlled by our thoughts, how to reverse the habitual thought patterns that are hampering our growth, how to adopt the ways happy people think and structure their character traits, how to build strong self-confidence and inner belief system, how to remove and destroy old limiting beliefs and past bad memories, how to have more confidence in situations that we feared in the past, and how to break free from old character traits that have become hampering bad habits.

Steve Norton is a born teacher and simply reading his book resembles a full year of therapy or an extensive series of classes. He is to the point, does not clutter the book with extraneous material, and finishing his book gives the reader a significant since of elation. Highly Recommended. Grady Harp, November 13

5.0 out of 5 stars Recommended – It shines a light for us at the end of a dark tunnel. 23 Nov 2013

While I like to pride myself on being reasonably stable and with a decent amount of self-esteem, I know this is not true of some dear ones close to me. For this reason I have always been fascinated to learn why some of us seem to be more relaxed and accepting of who we are, while others of us lack self-esteem.

What I found really strong in this book was the author’s approach to it, avoiding much of the generalities of many self-help books, and getting straight down to the matter of how you can help your own self-esteem. He also admits he offers no miracle cure, which is refreshing in its sincerity and openness. In many ways, it’s a case of “mind over matter” training your mind to slowly but surely move away from negative thinking and knocking yourself down. As he states, having low self-esteem is not easy to get rid of but by using his technique you can day by day remove your fears, and replace possible depression by having more respect for yourself.

In summary, a recommendable book that could well turn your life around if you suffer from depression and looking for new ways to combat it.

Steve Norton is a therapist from the UK, and brings years of clinical experience with the power of positive thinking to 'How To Stop Negative Thinking'. Although he's not breaking any new ground with this novel, it offers a very personal and plain-spoken view of the internal challenges to success and happiness we all face. It's not hard to find self-help books, but this one stands out for a couple of reasons. First, Mr. Norton speaks from experience, having grown up with anxiety attacks and their accompanying symptoms. Second, it's a very warm and thoughtful book that almost feels like you're having a conversation with the author, and that's a good thing. Whether you're working through significant personal challenges, or simply want to improve your quality of life, this book is a good place to start.
