Kind of interesting effect. Basically it is the same stuff used in nappies and water crystals, sodium polyacrylate. You tip the powder in and the powder then absorbs the water. It does not dissolve but fills your bath water with loads of lumps of soft gel, the water remains water but it is choka with these jelly lumps. In other words it is not like sitting in goo or slime which would be homogeneously gloopy, this material does not produce a homogenous effect but a heterogeneous slop. The water absorption of the gel is severely dependent on the purity of the water and this is accomplished by adding the sachet of salt. It does not dissolve the gel but causes it to hold less water and so reverse the impression that the water has thickened up. It is kinda fun but the description/ explanation of what is happening is plain wrong.

I think this is great fun. I've used it for my kids in the bath and found it easy to clean away. Although didn't find the need to let them have toys when they just played with the gunge!
Have also used it at halloween in a bucket for the kids to delve in and find a yucky body part! ALL the kids loved it plus it was a huge age range too.
I'm getting it again for halloween this year as that's waht everyone keeps mentioning!

The first sachet does indeed create lumps of goo in the water and lots of nasty see-through gel in the water.
Unfortunately, the second sachet does not get rid of it all, which means that the children, bath and any bath toys need a thorough cleaning afterwards.
It is a right pain to clean up and does not work as described - avoid.
