This eponymous debut album from LA's now defunct that dog is a hidden gem. At once both throwaway and introspective this collection of songs still stands up today. Inventive, highly melodic and carefully considered, most songs are treated with gorgeous vocal harmonies that add further depth. I'm finding it hard to draw comparisons, perhaps an almost female eels? Uniquely quirky, laidback, slackerish '90s guitar pop that holds your attention. This album is a real grower, but after a few plays those songs will get under your skin and you'll be unable to stop certain melodies and lines popping into your head more often than not.

I don't know where I first heard of That Dog or decided to pick up this album but I'm sure glad I did. These 3 girls and 1 bloke (on drums) sure do make a racket approaching something heavenly. The music is a bizzare take on indie-rock values with frequently thrashy guitars and drums accompanied by lush harmonies and string parts! Fans of Beck should check this out as they worked together a lot in the early '90s. Also fans of lo-fi and US indie rock should love it. The songs are fantastic, this truly is an underrated gem.
