I seriously can't believe how good this game is. I've been playing this all weekend, unable to put it down. It's fantastic and I'm surprised that nobody seems to be talking about it. Has anyone else played it yet?

Lol I'm actually surprised this thread wasn't started by Treab to be honest. And AstroMonkey I have got it - what I've played so far has been fantastic (I'll steal your word for it :P) but not been well over the weekend so haven't played it for a couple of days :(. I suppose at least I won't be finishing it as quickly as I did Uncharted 2 :).

__________ Even if you weren't ill you wouldn't. I've had 15 solid hours out of it so far and counting. I'm going to cancel my MW2 pre-order today. This game deserves more time than 4 days.

Is it significantly different to the previous games? I enjoyed the first couple on PS2, I've played the demo of ToD (which felt like more of the same in hi def) and I completed QfB which I didn't think much of at all. To be honest I'd be far more interested in the game if it had a much increased focus on platforming and/or puzzling than the previous instalments and the shooting was tightened up. As a relative non-fan of the series it really feels like R&C need a few years off.

The first R&C I played was on the PS3 Tel so I couldn't really say how it's developed compared to the games on the PS2. There are more puzzles in this one though but the game play still mostly revolves around blasting things to smithereens. The space ship areas are also quite entertaining. My only complaint would be that `hard' isn't quite hard enough. It's challenging but never really difficult. I've been absolutely sucked in by the story as well. A Ratchet and Clank pixar adventure should surely be negotiated!

the game is fantastic - there are some extra tweaks to the solid R&C platforming. the space exploration which allows you to land on moons and try and get collectables from these mini platforming levels is excellent. the clank time puzzles are quite challenging. the modded weapons makes a nice addition although the unusual weapons are still present. the sonic-inspired hover boots can make some levels quite hectic and adds a nice challenge to the platforming. the underlying game mechanics has not really changed - but i'm pleased about this - lets face it the worst game in the R&C franchise was the arena fighting one and the worst game in J&D was the kart racing one - when they focus on the solid platforming and crazy weapons then the games shine!
however - i have to agree that the "hard" difficulty level is just not that hard. or maybe it is the years playing previous R&C games that makes it seem so familiar.

tbh though it was never going to be that 'hard' on hard... it has to remain reasonably accessible to kids ...

Okay guys, sounds good! I will pick it up when it drops below £20 and I have a bit less to play :)
I've said it before (maybe not here), but guns have ruined platformers, so more puzzles and more platforming is exactly what I'm after. I also loved the flying levels in the first game (can't remember if they were in the second), so more of those are very welcome.

___________ I've one gripe about the moons. I'm finding it very hard to hit anybody with a projectile on the moons because of the shape of the levels my granades seem to be flying over the top of my enemies heads everytime are you having the same problem?

yeah the curvature of the moons makes it sometimes difficult to hit the enemies from a distance - just adds a little to the challenge:) i tend to hit them with my wrench or wait for my sight to lock on before attacking. it's never been a big problem. the main difficulty i have is trying to control my hover boots when accelerating around the platforms - many a time i've not braked in time and ended in the gloop.
i also like the overhead view of the moon which allows you to rotate the view around the moon to check how to get to all the areas! and the choice of 4 radio stations is good - although i tend to stick with pirate radio!

Glad it's getting good reports. I have always liked the series and wouldn't want it to stray too far, more of the same I am happy with.
Will probably get in December, with launch being sandwiched between Uncharted 2 and MW2 it's just a game too far at the moment. How about an R&C online. Would make a nice pace change from the usual offerigs out there even if the game modes were the usual fare. Fancy being turned into a chimp / penguin / I forget the rest!!! online anyone?

I found the overhead view on the moons very handy as well.
How are you getting on with the space missions? Looking at my stats I've done everything. I got the samaratin acheivment in game but I think it's gliched because I didn't get the trophy.

R&C3 on PS2 actually had online modes and - I never played it but so I hear - it was very good. It's a shame Insomniac have since taken a step back and none of the others have had multiplayer; would make a nice change from all the po-faced multiplayer shooters on the console.

Anyone know of any deals for this as I want to pick it up soon hopefully around the 20 squid mark?

You won't find it for £20 any time soon. Give it four weeks and offers might start popping up, as I suspect - like most games - in the shadow of MW2, Ratchet's sales will start to trail off pretty quickly.

I don't think it's selling well at all to be honest. Looking at the community page I'm ranked no lower in any area than 35,000 and I've not even finished it one time. Perhaps more units are selling and we will see a sudden boom in actual player around Xmas as I'm sure loads of parents will be getting this for there kids but at the moment it's not looking like there are too many people who have bought it. In a semi related side note the guy who has completed the most number of times has done it 221. I'm thinking no job, girl or social engagments and a sleeping disorder for that fella.

the space missions are generally fine - although i have one unfinished in the first sector - it's nice to see the moons turn from green to grew on the radar so you know which ones you've completed. I'm only on the second planet in the second sector as i haven't dedicated a lot of time to it as i'm trying to complete borderlands.
