Mr. D. P. Chaplin says:
I hope that everyone realises that when Game or Gamestation sell a preowned game NONE of that cash goes to the developer! Sell your games on ebay and buy MW2, at least your putting your money back into the games development market, thus ensuring the future of the gaming industry.

Errr, right. But developers don't make any money when he flogs his games on ebay. Don't understand your point. He's already said he wants to buy MW2 so will obviously be aiding the games development market.

What?! This makes no sense, as selling these games online will benefit the games sector even less than selling them to Game/Gamestation, and regardless, publishers or developers don't see any of this cash either way. @ Joel - I reckon: Killzone 2 - it's platinum now, so maybe £4-6 Oblivion - standard edition? Probably about £3-4 Little Big Planet - can be bought very cheaply new [online]. Probably not more than £4-5 Unreal Tournament 3 - I would guess £2-3. Game were selling it new a while back for £5 Devil May Cry 4 - again, I've seen it for new for £5 (in Currys). Probably £3-4 Battlefield Bad Company - again, it's Platinum, so I would guess you'll get £4-6 Sling 'em on Play, Amazon or eBay, as you'll get more profit than trading them at a store. Alternatively, look up on the CEX website how much you'd get from them, as I believe Gamestation offer to beat any quotes by £1 each.

take in a receipt from cex.co.uk and if gamestation wont match it they will beat it by £1...

Nope. There is a CEX in Liverpool near me (about 20-30 minute train ride) but I'm not paying to Liverpool for the sake of a few quid. Also, to the guy who said about the developers losing money if I trade them in: A) You don't really make sense B) I want the money there and then to buy Modern Warfare 2 C) I don't care

damn thats a pain joel... try hmv etc first then get gamestation to beat them (they will still give you their best price if they are better than hmv.)

Mate some honest advice, I'd reccommend you to trade it into hmv, they give the best prices by far, they utterly smash game's prices

No....
U see if he trades the games for store credit, which he then buys MW2 for, then he's not actually paying any money, he's just 'swaping' for all those old games. But if he sells online, then he'll actually have to go to a shop/ online and spend REAL money to buy it, therefore benefitting the games economy.

uhhhhhh, no it's not. When trading, the shop gives u the game cos they know that they're gonna make enough profit on the preowned sales to cover the cost of the game.
Simple logic treab, try it.

... the developer is not going to make any extra money either way... the shop paid the publisher a certain price for the game. all joel is doind is selling it on... if he sells it via the internet or trade in no-one is losing any money ... dipstick...

DJM says:
@M.taylor. Here is how it works in the real world. Game will arrange to buy, say 500 units of MW2 at £25 (at a guess) each. They then sell those copies instore at £35-£40 to make their profit. So whether a customer buys the game or trades titles in towards it, is irrelevant to the developer in that respect. A little common sense in future would probably help you a lot. Your suggestion would only make sense if it was possible to buy from the developer direct, completely cutting out the middleman, which would be Game, Hmv etc.

fair enough, I take your point DJM, but just to clarify, Treab, I was referring to the purchase of MW2, NOT the selling of the old games in respect to developers royalties.

He's swapping games that will then be sold at much inflated costs in the games shop, thereby benefiting the games shop. If he sells online, he'll be benefiting ebay, which does nothing for the games industry. He may have real money to spend in store, but how is that any different from them getting the money through resale. Whichever way he gets the game, the developer is still going to be paid the same amount for selling Game or Gamestation the actual physical copy.

But Taylor, as Carl pointed out...
I don't want to help the developer. They're already charging £45 per game so I don't think they're gonna be on the bones of their ar$es any time soon...

Hey Taylor. Dont listen to these meanies, youre special. I like you, you remind me of the boy i once was, when i was 4years old, when i knew not much at all but acted like i did. Then i grew up, maybe you will one day too, instead of being a little internetz warrior. But then again, judging by the influx of newcomers on here lately who are blatantly backwards, i doubt it.
