 Fernando Joffes says:
On MW2 they have used the xbox system of inviting friends, now on PS3 you can't join up with mates. Says error no longer etc, when they in lobby.

Patch required!

Carefull, EVIL bambi's gonna jump all over this!

Let him, its well deserved. This is something that should just not happen.

The 360 one works flawlessly, although with the party/game chat they've made some odd choices.

had a look on google it says thell be a patch for this friday!!!! but if the host stays online invites and u turn of ur cosole then turn back on and accept it it will allow you intop the party!!! well it worked with me n my bro yesterday

If you join a game, and someone is missing (e.g only 5 of your party out of the 6 get in) you don't actually have an option to "Leave with party" like on WaW, and possibly CoD4 (Can't remember, it's been a while)

No it's not, it's the day after release, the servers are hammered and this sort of things is to be expected unless you just don't understand bandwidth.

Spoilt console brats that's what I say, give them a chance.

Seriously, if any of you had actually used a dial up connection you wouldn't expect everything to "just work"

Infinity ward saying PS3 update on invites due this friday... patch please!

IW should have been prepared in advance.

Posted on 11 Nov 2009 11:46 GMT
 RiZzah says:
Should they?

So IW should purchase/rent enough servers to cover every copy sold?

The problem we have, is literally everyone who has bought this game is now playing online. In a couple of weeks this will have died down and the load on the servers will have settled.

It is simply not plausible for IW to put an infinite amount of servers out there just so everyone can play with their friends on release day.

Remember, its day 2, and you are already moaning about the invite scenario.

Give it a week, if its still a problem then I'll acknowledge it as such and join on the "bash IW bandwagon"

Until then I'll show some patience and restraint and give IW a chance to sort out the teething issues.

Besides, you can't expect this to just work until they get it out there, get it tested on a multitute of different net configurations and then provide patches / workarounds to these issues.

Some of you simply don't understand how things work and would much rather they just work.

There's a word for that...

Ignorance.

"Let him, its well deserved. This is something that should just not happen."

Exactly. The only people that say "this is to be expected" are PS3 owners, because on the PS3 it really is to be expected. I've been on this forum for long enough and seen all the whining and complaining to know that that's the case. Some examples: -

Fat Princess - Totally f*cked online at launch. Post-patch you get momentary freezes as you're playing. Still not fixed.
COD4 - No option to mute other players at all. Had to be added much later in a patch.
COD:WAW - No options to search for games by locale first, local only or worldwide in the PS3 version. After action reports didn't work and were fixed weeks later with a patch.
Killzone 2 - No option to invite people from your own friends list until a patch was released later.
Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising - Have to type names in manually to invite people.
Uncharted 2 - People sit around waiting in lobbies and no other players are added. Players met info not being populated. The patch didn't fix the issues for many people.
The Battlefield games - Communication options that just don't work.
WipEout HD - Freezing for people with more than 50 players on their friends list. Fixed later in a patch. Spectator mode added in a later patch that also caused online glitches that had to be fixed in yet another patch.
LittleBigPlanet - Servers totally borked at launch.

MW2 works fine on Live. Most of this is probably down to certain functionality being built into Live, so it's tried and tested. The invite system used in MW2 is not a standard thing on the PS3, but it is on the Xbox 360. Live certainly hasn't been 100% flawless, but it's far more reliable than PSN.

RiZzah I think that's a little unnecessary. I imagine a lot of people would assume a game should come with the functionality expected of it upon release. That's certainly been the case for all other games I have bought. Although I do tend to buy cross platform games for the 360.

RiZzah's an idiot mate. Don't pay any attention to anything he says. He contradicts himself constantly and when he tries to sound like he's knowledgeable on a particular topic, it just exposes how little he actually knows.

Posted on 11 Nov 2009 12:12 GMT
Uncharted 2's online seems to work fine lately, usually get a game within 30 seconds of trying.
But yes, I probably would pay for PSN if it would help them add more features etc but it is pretty impressive for a free service.

Out of curiosity, how much would you say you have spent on your 360 altogether EVIL? Including live, wireless adapter, that sort of thing?

In reply to an earlier post on 11 Nov 2009 12:19 GMT
the xbox version has abosolutely no problems, and from what i can gather, if they had kept the party system to that of WaW's, the PS3 version would be fine also.

I know question wasn't directed at me, but I paid £50 for the wireless adaptor, £70-£80 for the last two years of Live (To be extended for another year in December) and however much the 60G Xbox and Turtle Beach headphones cost.

"Out of curiosity, how much would you say you have spent on your 360 altogether EVIL?"

On extra hardware, I've bought the following: -

Wireless headset
Chat pad
HDMI cable
3 extra controllers

I'd have bought the same things if I owned a PS3. Maybe not 3 extra controllers, but I picked those up either because there were good deals on them, or because there were good deals on the Wireless Entertainment Pack that comes with a controller. I use them for PC gaming as well and I've got some 4 player co-op games, so they're handy to have. I had rechargeable batteries and a charger before I got the console, but I have bought 4 extra rechargeable AA batteries for the extra controllers (£5 on eBay). I don't use wireless, so I haven't needed to buy a wireless adapter or homeplugs.

I've spent £77 on Live subscriptions since owning a 360 (3 years worth) which will last until January 2011.

Calling someone "Ignorant" because they expect a game to work. It just stupid.

If i picked a car up from the showroom and it didn't start the next morning I'd be pi55ed. I wouldn't expect them to say "Its just teething issues, just leave it for a day or 2. You can listen to the stereo though!" They'd get told to do one. The same as I'm now sticking to the 360 version until the PS3 version works flawlessly.

Yes : Edited because I said 260.

Posted on 11 Nov 2009 12:28 GMT
And in reply to the question that was aimed at Bluck, my total expense on 360 gear, probably equates to that of a new PS3 and a couple of games. But I've yet to be disappointed.

The Dashboard is a little hard to get used to after the simplicity of PSN, is my only gripe. (Still can't find a game I saw advertised in a mag on the marketplace ><)

"(Still can't find a game I saw advertised in a mag on the marketplace ><)"

What game is it? You can view all XBLA games listed A-Z so things aren't that hard to find. lol.

You can even search for the game on the marketplace section of Xbox.com and queue it up so it'll download on your console when you turn it on.

Anyway, back on topic. PS3 patch update fri so you can connect to friends when they invite you.

As I said, they copied teh xbox invite system and it hasn't worked on PS3

Just found out temporary solution:

Sign into PSN
Load MW2
Sign out of PSN
Sign back in
Hey Presto - invites work and can join friends

Posted on 11 Nov 2009 13:36 GMT
They need to patch the 'Join games' option too as the xmb doesn't change the info. I saw Carl playing Domination on Terminal all night but i couldn't join him as it was obvious he was on another map/mode but the xmb still registered as Domination.

Why they decided to experiment, i'll never know. The join game option is excellent but it didn't need xmb support to work. I'm happy with just pressing triangle and picking who i want, not going to xmb which is slow while playing games.

 [DPR_ThereIn] says:
'communication with the activision servers has been interrupted'.

I cant find a single game cos of said message now.

I will be going back to W@W if this continues.

TO be fair I expected there to be some online issue with the game on release and am quite please that i am having lag free games - cant wait to play with a couple of the rats but using the time well to increase my KDR - currently at 1.65.
