Morning all, now I'm totally unsure if there is a rampant wave of hand held fanboys out there so if there is I apologise in advance as I'm not actually trying to start trouble but I'm wanting a hand held and with Xmas approaching I think I might start dropping hints for one. P4p which is better? I'm thinking PSP simply as I have a PS3 but if the DSi is the better gaming platform obviously I would take that.

I have the psp go I was hoping to use it for remote play to watch tv and recorded tv from ps3 but doesnt support the wifi I have at work wpa enterprise but there is the film store coming soon sometime this month I think, but on the games front I think the dsi may beat it depending on the type of games you enjoy.

I bought the psp because of metal gear solid peacewalker. Overall im quite happy with it. Ive got ff7 crisis core, monster hunter fu (need to play this more often) and god of war (among others) which are all very good plus ive got some ps1 games of psn (ff7 on psp!!!! brilliant for late night sessions in the dark. I really wish theyd add more classics, and i mean genuine classics, to psn). To be honest with you astro, i dont play it that often. I dont have as much time for gaming as i used to and i generally use up the time i have on me ps3.

It depends what you're looking for, if you simply want portable versions of all the games you've got for the PS3, then go for for the PSP.
If you want something a bit different, go for the DS.

if you have ps3 id go for psp. i wouldnt get the go tho id get a 3000. there are some good games and you can get umds for cheaper than downloads (go figure). plus you will have the bonus of remote play on psp so you can access your playstation thru it. i watch movies off my ps3 in bed when the other half is sleepin.

Don't think it's been mentioned here but in the new year there is the DSi XL (LL in Japan and the USA) which has a screen 33% bigger but is thinner. Something to think about if you want to get something soon. the retail is £169.00

My 7 y/o daughter loves her DS but tbh unless you fancy playing Imagine Dream Weddings and Nintendogs I would go for a PSP.

Mozza (PSN: Mozz-eyes) says:
Go for the PSP. It has Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. Also, many of the games for it are 'proper' titles that hold your attention for longer than a few minutes.
The Pokemon series is the only reason I have a DS and despite putting in 120 hours on Platinum, I have spent far longer on my PSP overall. I was considering buying a PSP go but rumor has it that they will be announcing a new model soon.

My opinion is that if you've got a PS3 or 360 then get a DSi. It just offers a completely different gaming experience which you can't get on your playstation or xbox. I've got a DSi and being able to play Zelda, mariokart and prof.layton which i'm unable to play on my ps3 or xbox makes it worthwhile. I do also have a wii but i'd rather play zelda and mariokart etc on the dsi.

I guess it depends on what you want. PSP really tends to offer cut down versions of games which are on the PS3...which is fine if you simply want to play similar games when you're out and about...
...but if you intend on using it at home a fair amount then I'd get a DS/DSi as it has far more unique content. Most of the stuff clogging up the shelves for DS is for kids..but sadly that's more down to the stores appealing to the largest demographic. Look at the review sites and search online stores and I'd say theirs actually more "mature" content on the DS than the PSP ...that's "mature" in the sense of well designed software for adults.. as opposed to the young teen definition which simply means a game with blood and guns and an 18 rating. ..but as I said it reallly depends what you're looking for.

I would recommend the PSP simply because it's graphics are better and also if a hardcore gamer then there are alot more games for the PSP. It has the open world GTA vice city stories and the DS only has GTA Chinatown wars which is not as good.

Astro, are there any gametypes that you like in particular?
As mentioned it is great to have the downloadable games for the PSP I have recently setup a US PSN account to download PS1 classics Wild Arms and Blood Omen Legacy of Kain, just need the bigger memory stick, as I play my handhelds generally for a while in bed before I go to sleep these games are great to pick up and play. The remote play is pretty cool and you can stream files on your PC through the PS3 to the PSP which is awesome in my opinion but I have used it like once just for the craic. I think the DS has the best selection of games and I have played it much more than my PSP, bear in mind I have never played a DSi and don't know it's full capabilites, The proper Mario games Mario Kart/New Super Mario are brilliant as is Yoshi's Island 2, Advance Wars which is a turn based military strategy is one of my favourite games ever and if you get a DS Lite you have the ability to play all the old GBA games of which there are some great games too. It's not all imagine games and brain training. EDIT: I really like both but I prefer the DS for gaming content overall, saying that though I have been playing footy manager handheld on PSP like crazy recently. As others have said already just depends what you're after

Oh yes you are. There are only two people I have on ignore and the other one still has is same tag. You should have registered a completely new account so the ignore would not follow you.
If you can change what you post and the way you post you may even get away from it. I will be oblivious though. Good luck.......

Mr. P. Wilson says:
I have the PSP, and all the Nintendo hand helds. I would defently go for the PSP because once you hack it and use a magic memory stick you can emulate almost any console or home computer (obviously not current gen)
Go for the PSP and the whole back catalogue of the 16bit era is yours. :)

if getting the psp then go for the psp 3000 instead of the pspGO as a lot of the old games are only umd. you can buy a 16gb memory card to download to if you want and it would still be cheaper than getting a pspGO. - however i suppose if you are into mainstream new games and don't mind paying a bit extra for games from the ps store then a pspGO would be OK :)
the quality of the 3d graphics and the connectivitity with the ps3 make the psp a bit more preferable to the dsi - although there is a much larger choice of games on the dsi (a lot of them are for casual gamers - or should i say for non traditional gamer types?)
