Bernie Gunther - Phillip Kerr - anyone else into this stuff?

As a public sector worker recently acquired by a monstrous 'NHS finiancial (foundation) trust it is nice to escape in a world where the hero is a decent sort with no control within an obscene and overwhelming culture - he is a Marlowe-like PI in Nazi Germany - the five, no now six, books are a gas - I am about halfway through the third of the Berlin Noir trio and urge folk to give them a glance.

KO'73- thanks for tip - i've read other Philip Kerr stuff and enjoyed it
also a fan of alan furst - not detective, more spy also set in WWII

swap - tried Charles Willeford's Hoke Moseley series? - fantastic detective - think Frank Cannon/Jim Rockford - not a pin-up but a real hoot

Yes, I really enjoyed the Bernie Gunther stories I've read so far. For more atmospheric 1930s and wartime Berlin, you might like to try David Downing and his "Station" series.

Those are all excellent recommendations. Another great series are the Jack Irish novels by Peter Temple.
