P. J. LAWSON says:
should tv executives be sued for waisting our valuable life-times,when they cancel a series, leaving it unresolved - ie: surface, the riches, journeyman, tripods. if a tie-up was attempted, that would appease, but to be left dangling, that in itself is frustrating and tantamont to ..............( more next week ).

The Pretender, the two movies did not solve the puzzle about Jarod and Ms Parker they only made it worse. Come NBC pick up the story and give us an ending.

Joan of Arcadia, Las Vegas, Carnival, The Riches, Invasion, Pushing Dasies, Wonderfalls, My so called Life, Journeyman...
Thats just to name a few, NBC is desperate for canceling shows without and ending, eg, Las vegas, it ran for 5 seasons, did it mean so little to them that they just cancell it wit no ebding??

The Liquidator says:
What about Invasion? Was Sheriff Tom carrying Larkin into the water to 'revive' her as a hybrid surrogate? Would Russell have been in time to stop him and would he have wanted to do so anyway?
Wish I'd never seen a single episode of it. Damn you ABC!

Bionic Woman was a good series in which Michelle Ryan was fantastic. There should have been at least one more season as there was so much more that could have been explored.

Mr. J. Carder says:
Two brilliant ITV shows that were cancelled without an ending:
Primeval, and Pushing Daisies. In Primeval, how will they return to the presrnt once the anomaly is closed? What will happen to Helen, and Cutter? And Pushing Daisies just left everything hanging.

S. Scanlan says:
The sad truth is that TV execs only care about eyeballs on advertising...if they could get us to watch flies shagging up and down a wall, tv listings would be wall to wall fly shagging...sad but true...I fear the future holds even worse, given that revenues from advertising are on their way out, apparently (I never watch ads; I either mute the sound, hit pause on my Sky+, or am watching a prerecorded show anyway, and so skip them..I find the advertising crass and annoying anyway) so there will have to be a tv revolution, and I imagine the web will be strongly involved...maybe along the lines of paying up front to see a series with advance screening on the web, and then a few weeks later the normal tv slot for everyone else....even still the amrekt will be completely about making money...not about entertainment value or what the fans might think!!!

Martin Dale says:
I'm not sure some of the shows mentioned above would really ever have had an ending. I thought Las Vegas was ending when the Montecito was blown up, but they came back with a new hotel. 2 more shows I remember ending on a cliff-hanger or major revelation but then got cancelled are Odyssey 5 and John Doe. And Dead Like Me only got 2 seasons. Why Bryan Fuller bothers any more......
2 shows with really bad 'tie-up' TV movies: Farscape-Peacekeeper Wars (awful) and Stargate-Ark of Truth (dreadful).

Keith Joseph says:
'Space above and beyond' - actually got moderately interesting by the cliffhanger in season one by which us Humans were poised to eradicate the alien Chig scum from the universe [after a failed attempt to eradicate the Artificial Inteligence robotic scum from the solar system in the AI wars a few years earlier, which didn't bode well]. It was nominated for two Emmy Awards and one Saturn Award, probably the kiss of death, and was scheduled for 5 seasons. Couldn't they have just filmed a one hour special with a hooray for us, the Chigs are actually quite nice if you make an effort to get to know them, finale? - they must have had all the sets and the actors contracted in - plus it might have made repeats of the season worth selling for reruns or DVDs. Mind you if they could cancel the last season of Enterprise and Dr Who ......Stargate only got reprieved by the SciFi channel taking it over. Likewise 'Twin peaks' and ITV's 'The Prisoner' got booted off before the full run, but they were allowed to frantically film a finale episode [hence the weird, but mostly wonderful, frantic endings to both series].
Children's 1985 BBC series the Tripods, finished with the Tripod alien scum still knocking seven bells out of us Humans [using The Masters thought control technology], but with a ray of hope from a sparky Brit kid - but sadly the BBC put the boot in and season two never materialised [despite the announcer saying 'the story will continue next year' - well I'm still waiting]. Babylon five almost got wiped out after four seasons despite only one season to go, Earth final conflict limped on to a sort of conclusion after 5 seasons. Blood ties [Vampires] has gotton a late reprieve [season 2], but not our fave 'The Dresden Files'. Others like the X files ran on so long many passed out before the final episode [well I saw it: turned out we had surrendered unconditionally to the technologically superior Aliens and they are arriving in 2012 to take posession of the Earth, with us in the UK no doubt making the tea for everybody]. Others like 'Lost' hit the Sky wilderness and so are lost to terrestrial viewers [not much of a loss actually]. Dr Who...well it's never too late to resurrect a series to greatness....so God speed 'FireFly'

David says:
Primeval - one of ITV's best shows so why axe it - especially since it ends on a cliffhanger. Also the excellent American show Profiler - another excellent series which was cancelled with no resolution to the cliffhanger either. I also remember The Tripods - two of John Christopher (I think thats the auther of the books name) trilogy were adapted but they never made the final book The Pool Of Fire. I remember being gutted at the time and after rewatching series 1 and 2 on dvd I feel gutted all over again.

Pushing Daisies, Wonderfalls, Dead Like Me, Hex ( well actually hex had a sort of ending). Joey and recently Not Going Out. I'm just glad Farscape was given a brilliant mini-series.

Chris Richardson says:
It seems that American television is more succeptible to this than British television.
I get the point, really I do. If a series is not popular then why continue; however, sometimes I do wonder if there aren't sometimes other considerations. Take Carnivale, a superb series in my view, axed before the completion of the story despite its being popular. One has to ask if it was more about politics and the Christian right's influence that had the show axed because of some of the imagery in that show; I mean, the avatar of evil as a evangelist priest - a great device but that had to piss off a few connected people. The other thing is that there is a large difference between not finishing a story and explaining every last plot detail before the end. The first I take issue with, but the second is quite acceptable. I really hate it that viewers have become addicted to the finale where every little detail and nuance of the plot is explained, usually clumsily like in some Miss Marple mystery. Life isn't like that and I don't demand that of what I read or what I watch; it's good that some things are not explained. Sadly, Firefly is dead and it's not coming back, and they will never make a sequel to Soldier; however, the next installment of the Riddick story will probably hit the screens and that's got to be comforting...

A. J. Bradbury says:
How about the cut off to end all cut offs - The Prisoner.
Originally intended to go for 26 episodes (for business reasons) it end up with only 17. Though as far as I know it has never been clear how many McGoohan himself wanted to make, nor whether he ever intended to have a final episode that tied up all the loose ends. Maybe it was just very clever BS all along, though personally I think McGoohan did have a coherent notion of what the series was about, and where he wanted it to go. At the beginning of the project, at least.

A. Davis says:
If a series is going to be axed, which I understand happens sometimes, then the least they can do is not axe it on a cliff-hanger, it's most unfair! Born and bred ended with a main character being falsely accused of murder and I'd really got into the characters as well.

A. J. White says:
As I recall, the 2-part ending to The Prisoner was filmed virtually at the beginning. There was an intention to make another 24, but as I recall at the time , the reason given for stopping when they did was, basically, exhaustion (of McGoohan I think).

I totally agree, I have been to Manly and used it to remind me of the great place along with the great series. My sister says she has never seen it in OZ, thinks it was made for the viwers in England.
Where do we moan!?!
