help vista problems windows media player

i have windows vist home premium , it worked fine till a week ago when i go to windows media player to select a movie file to watch , it comes up with cannot play video one or more codecs required to open this content cannot be found .
all i want is to watch the film or burn to a blank dvd to watch on normal tv at later date any body help with this issue .
or suggest other dvd media i can download thanks
