wow - the answers appeared before the question..I..its like that thing on telly, er, flash forward.
Songs that say one loves ones baby for an interesting or curious reason - the best thing about you is your girlfriend by the specials almost works..oh heres one Lyle Lovett - I married her because she looks like you...

How about Bessie in 'Up On Cripple Creek' by The Band? The male protagonist describes how his lover loves all the mischief he does, and sticks up for him. The chorus is a blinder, encompassing so much of their need and respect for one another, as well as the fun and games:
'Up on Cripple Creek she sends me,
If I spring a leak she mends me,
I don't have to speak, she defends me,
A drunkard's dream if I ever did see one!'

Bessie was clearly one hell of a Baby!

Cornish must be away or he'd be sure to have come up with a Dead quote. "Sugar Magnolia" sounds not dissimilar to Felicia's Bessie

She's got everything delightful,
she's got everything I need,
Takes the wheel when I'm seeing double,
pays my ticket when I speed

Lyle Lovett's lyric is right on the money - always loved that one
the way i read it the "her" and the "you" refer to the same woman - is that a fair interpretation?

"baby, now that i've found you i can't let you go
i've built my world around you"

In reply to an earlier post on 12 Nov 2009 19:39 GMT
Gosh I thought the Lyle song meant he married some lass because she resembled a different lass who he loved in vain - maybe she left him...I love his song 'Shes leaving me because she really wants to - suggests a new thread, good reasons for leaving you/her/him recorded in popular song.
(an aside the new Flight of the Conchords record has a fine inversion of Paul Simons 50 ways to leave your lover where the man is singing out the reasons a variety of previous girlfriends have left him....brilliant stuff)

Well done jowcol - you're right, I had a couple of very busy days with no time for posting!
