 A. Holland says:
I've recently been listening to the United States Of America's one (eponymously titled) album. It is highly original, has some brilliant songs on it, and used a great deal of moog synthesizer on it (which was unusual at the time - 1968). Unfortunately it seems as if that was the only thing that they ever did.

Another album I've recently discovered is Orchestra Luna's self-titled effort, from early 1975. Queen apparently ripped them off no end and I've rarely heard anything by a band that has been so astonishingly original. Yet again, that is all they did, although the individual members went on to lead productive careers.

I think it's sad when this happens though, because I'd love to hear more by such artists.

Anybody go any more examples of this kind of phenomena?

The only one trick album that I can think of is Jeff Buckley's Grace. Grace (Legacy Edition) His only official studio album.
I own the 2xCD version.

Morgan - " Organized", nice 60's vibe from swinging ..er..1999! Heard the single , "Miss Parker" on Radio 1, and was impressed enough to buy the album, whose main boast is that it features the keyboard/piano from The Who, quite prominantly! Buy this album, stick on your freaky lighting and enjoy the trip maaaan!

Cuckoo - "Breathing Lessons". A terrific album from the late 90's. I think they broke up just as things were beginning to happen for them. They remind me a bit of the Pixies, a bit of early Weezer, a bit of Dinosaur Jr etc yet managing to create their own sound. I see that its for sale on Amazon for 90p so surely has to be worth a punt!

I used to have an album called "Blood Robots" by the Androids Of Mu. Never been issued on CD so far as I know, and don't think they did anything else.

Edit:
Don't know how I could have forgotten the superb "Colossal Youth" by Young Marble Giants.

I was wrong! I've discovered I have another one-off wonder.
Blues Run The Game
The above is a double CD that I own that contains his only original CD Jackson C Frank with added earlier and later material.
If you're remotely curious, try listening to the music samples on the product links.

Starry I have the original CD Jackson C Frank also, in my case it was a deliberate choice to buy that and not the extended double. IMO the single CD is just right (even this CD has 5 bonus tracks which I feel detract from the album) and often play only the 10 original tracks.
