What is the UK launch date for this app for the UK android users? Pre-installed in the US but missing in the UK. Sort it out please.

I second that. Amazon is losing my good will on this one. I am getting tempted to audible which I'd rather not do, but I'm not going to spend hours trying to over come problesm to use Amazon with my G1.

I'd really love to see it launched over here, I'd probably end up ditching iTunes altogether if it did.

Come on Amazon, you need to get your finger out. I don't want to have to sign up for another music service to use on my G1 but I will if someone else comes out with a service before yous guys. Get it sorted.

FYI.
Although there is no app to download music to the android for us living in the UK. You can just download it directly from this site using the android. I've just done so now and am writing this comment using my android while listening to the new song I just bought.

@M.Jeffries
The problem is that for single tracks what you say is true however downloading an album requires that you have the Amazon download application. This was at least true the last time I checked when making my initial posting. @Anyone Over the past few days I've seen Google releasing apps we would have expected in the UK via Cupcake (Latitude and Voice Seach) which has given me hope that we may see the Amazon download app on the Android Market soon. However this would be Amazons decision to follow Googles example. It maybe that Amazon UK do not have the infrastructure in Europe or that licensing for distribution via wireless networks is not permitted in Europe. (But then European iPhones are happy with iTunes over 3G aren't they?). Licensing negotiations and lack of EV-DO/CMDA infrastructure have already been given as the reason there is no European Kindle device so it is not too great a leap to think similar of the missing Amazon app. One of the differences between Kindle and the missing Amazon app is that Amazon talk more about why there is no Kindle. @Amazon UK Sorry, you've taken too long for me and communicated very little on the reasons. In the mean time I have found my own solution which I actually prefer. As I also have an iPod I will continue to use iTunes for my media downloads and the third party application iTunesAgent to sync iTunes content to any USB storage device I choose which includes my Android handset. @Myself You talk too much about things that are not really that important!

I've just read the Cnet UK post on this very topic - rang Amazon customer services to see if they know what was going on and the woman I spoke to knew nothing of any app - existing or forthcoming. I'm seriously looking at buying an HTC Hero when it's released - but having found out that there's no easy way to get music on there, I may have to think again... Come on Amazon!

I've just tried to download the MP3 the traditional way using my HTC Hero (full website). The download fails.... Now awaiting a response from Amazon.

J. D. Ludlow says:
There is a worrying trend for fairly basic services to be available in the US for years before the owners of the service bother to let the rest of the world use it - sometimes this is because of legal / licensing issues (Pandora and Hulu, for example), or because there is only data available for the US (Traffic, Street View, etc), sometimes it's just plain laziness (the improvements to iGoogle were available in the US for ages, for example, before they came to the international version).
In this case, I think it's just laziness. It works for the US site, I don't see that it would be that difficult to create a version that points to the UK site (or even add an option to point to a local version of Amazon into the existing app).
